Thirty Years, One Mistake Chapter 07
Luca practically ran out of the estate.Â
Until today, he’d never imagined this moment.Â
He got in the car but didn’t start it. He reached forÂ
his cigarettes and found a pack of gum instead.Â
I had put it there.Â
He vaguely remembered promising to quitÂ
smoking to prepare for a baby.Â
But now the baby was gone.Â
He unlocked his phone, hands shaking, andÂ
scrolled to her name.Â
She answered immediately.Â
“Luca, calling me this late? Miss me? Is the familyÂ
dinner over?”Â
“Where are you?” His voice was ice.Â
Erin gave an address – a highend restaurantÂ
downtown.Â
“I’m celebrating with my friends. Come – they allÂ
want to meet you.”Â
“Shut up.”Â
Luca’s tone was lethal.Â
“Erin, I’ll give you twenty minutes. Get to the usualÂ
spot.”Â
He hung up and floored the gas.Â
Twenty minutes later, at Luca’s private casino.Â
Erin sat on the couch in a sexy slip dress, makeup.Â
perfect, a glass of red wine in front of her.Â
She smiled when she saw him and stood up.Â
“Luca…”Â
Smack.Â
The slap landed hard on her face. She stumbledÂ
and crashed into the sofa.Â
Erin covered her cheek, looking up in disbelief,Â
eyes filling with tears.Â
“You hit me? Luca, how dare you?”Â
“How dare I?”Â
He looked down at her with undisguised disgustÂ
and rage.Â
“Who gave you permission to post that?”Â
He held up his phone, her social media page,Â
those glaring photos stinging his eyes likeÂ
needles.Â
“Didn’t I warn you to keep quiet? Don’t appear in front of her. Don’t let her know you exist.”Â
“Erin, how dare you?”Â
Erin laughed through her tears, a wild edge to it.Â
“Be quiet? Luca, how can I be quiet? I’ve been following you like a rat in the sewer for years.”Â
“You bought her a mansion, introduced her to your family. Everyone knows she’s your Donna.”Â
“And me? What am I? I don’t even have one photo of you.”Â
“I’ve had enough!”Â
She screamed.Â
“I did it on purpose. I wanted her to see. I wantedÂ
her to know you’re mine.”Â
“Shut up.”Â
Luca grabbed her by the throat and slammed herÂ
against the wall.Â
“You knew I was married from the start. EightÂ
years ago, you threw yourself at me. Now you’reÂ
playing the victim?”Â
“Let me tell you – if it weren’t for you, if it weren’tÂ
for that night…”Â
His voice broke. His grip loosened. Pain flickeredÂ
in his eyes.Â
“If it weren’t for you, she and I wouldn’t be likeÂ
this.”Â
Erin gasped for air, looking at the man she’d loved for years, now treating her so cruelly for anotherÂ
woman.Â
“Hahaha… Luca, stop pretending to be so in love.”Â
“If you really loved her that much, would you haveÂ
slept with me eight years ago? Would you haveÂ
used me again and again these past years?”Â
“You’re a hypocrite. You’re worse than me.”Â
“Shut up.”Â
Luca raised his hand again, but it froze midair.Â
Her words cut deep, hitting the darkest corners ofÂ
his heart.Â
Yes. It was him.Â
He was the one who couldn’t keep his boundaries.Â
He was the one who craved novelty.Â
He was the one who, with his own hands, pushedÂ
the girl who had only eyes for him into the abyss.Â
“Get out.”Â
He pointed at the door, voice weary and cold.Â
“Erin, starting today, don’t let me see you again.Â
Otherwise, you’ll find out what happens when youÂ
cross me.”Â
Erin’s face went white. She knew he wasn’t joking.Â
She stumbled, grabbed her bag, and fled.Â
Luca was alone in the room.Â
Dead silence.Â
He clutched his chest, doubled over, and let out aÂ
muffled, anguished cry.
