After my family abandoned me—I sold my emotions for 800,000 Chapter 09
When I walked downstairs to see my sugar
daddy off, I was all smiles.
“See you, husband.”
His face twisted in displeasure, “Don’t call
me that.”
“Okay, baby.”
Lucien looked like he was suffering from a permanent, untreatable toothache.
“Hazel, I’m warning you. We only have a contractual marriage. Cut the mushy act, and don’t even think about falling for me.”
My smile didn’t falter, “Rest assured, I could never fall for you even if I tried.”
Lucien thought I was mocking him, his face
warping with rage.
Before he could start arguing with me, a
familiar figure appeared in the distance.
It was Graham.
I had never seen Graham look so furious.
He stepped forward, his gaze locking on the
ring on my ring finger.
His voice shook slightly, “What is this?”
Lucien was still seething with anger from my
earlier remark; he was so mad he would have
kicked a stray dog just for walking past him,
let alone Graham.
He raised an eyebrow and snapped, “A
wedding ring, are you blind?”
Graham didn’t look at Lucien. His eyes
stayed fixed unblinkingly on me, like he
would shatter any second.
“Who gave this to you?”
Lucien scoffed, “Dude, are you actually brain.
damaged? Who else do you think would give
it to her besides me?”
“Hazel!” Graham’s eyes were red, “We never
even broke up!”
This time, Lucien went quiet.
He stepped a few feet to the side, standing next to an old woman holding her grandchild. All three of them wore the exact same gossip–hungry expression.
I blinked, at a complete loss for words.
I didn’t bother arguing. I just pulled up a
phone recording.
It was the last call I had with Graham, right
before my surgery.
“Come to my office before 6, or the
engagement is off…”
“Forget the engagement. Let’s just break up. You won’t even give me 80,000 dollars. What difference does it make if I have you or not?”
I hit pause and looked at Graham.
“Did you hear that? We broke up.”
His voice was hoarse, “I never agreed to it!”
I said coldly, “A relationship needs consent from two people to start, but a breakup only needs one person to make up their mind.
I’ve made that decision, and I informed you properly so you knew. Do you have any other
questions?”
Graham stared at me. The wind blew, and
tears glistened in his eyes.
He stepped forward, trying to hug me.
“Hazel, stop being silly. I know you’re mad
at me because of Yvonne.
“But it’s not what you think. I was drunk that day, Yvonne took me to a hotel. She
didn’t leave when I was taking a shower, and she answered your call… Nothing happened
between us, I swear.
“You’re the only one I love. If you’re upset,
I’ll block her right now, okay?”
My gaze skipped past Graham and landed
behind him.
Graham noticed my look and turned around
too.
A dozen steps behind him, my entire family
was standing there.
Graham’s words had been loud enough for
Yvonne to hear every word. Her face was
pale, and she swayed slightly.
“Senior Graham…”
“Graham.” Eliot walked over and stood next
to Graham, “Don’t waste your time coaxing
her here. Don’t worry, our family will never
allow her to break up with you.
“You know how she is, she’s just throwing a
tantrum. She doesn’t actually want to break
up with you.
“Come on, let’s go back first. She’ll come
home.”
Eliot reached out to pull Graham away.
But Graham stubbornly held out his hand to
- me.
“Hazel, come back with me.
Before I could say anything, a figure stepped
between us.
Lucien swatted Graham’s hand away.
“She’s my fiancée. Why the hell would she go with you?”
Graham’s face turned icy, and he glared at Lucien with open hostility.
“She would never agree to be your fiancée.”
Lucien’s rebellious streak flared up.
“She doesn’t have a choice, whether she
agrees or not! I paid for her!”
Graham froze for a second.
He turned to look at me, asking in disbelief.
“He was the one who gave you that 80,000
dollars?”
