My Brother Said I Was Family But He Never Gave Me a Home Chapter 08
Christopher panicked, his phone falling into the
sand with a dull thud.
Sophia stopped drinking her coconut water. “What’s wrong? Is it the company?”
He didn’t answer, he just stared.
Then he scrambled to pick up the phone and
called Emily.
One ring. Two. On the fifth ring, it connected.
But instead of her soft voice, he heard a robotic recording. The person was unavailable.
He tried again and again, same result.
That was when he realized she had blocked him.
He grabbed Sophia’s phone to call Emily.
But when he typed in the number, he saw a
contact name that made him freeze.
Fake trash.
He held up the phone, disbelief in his eyes. “What
is this?”
Sophia’s eyes turned red, and she squirmed. “What
it says. I hate her. She’s just-”
Christopher hurled the phone at her feet. Sand
sprayed into her drink.
The clear liquid turned murky.
“Who do you think you are? Change that right now.Â
If I ever see you talk about her that way again, you’ll find out what happens.”
Sophia stared at him in disbelief. “What’s wrong
with you?”
He ignored her.
He called his assistant and told him to contact
Emily.
He waited in agony, listening to Sophia’s anxious
sobbing.
Finally, the assistant called back.
“What happened?”
The assistant sighed. “Mr. Scott, Miss Turner said
to stop contacting her. She wants us to leave her
alone.”
Christopher finally understood, Emily wasn’t in
trouble.
She had left, was leaving a home she had only
been part of for three years, after being separated
for more than a decade.
His hands shook as panic clawed at him.
Something was slipping away. Something
important.
“We’re going home. Pack. Now.”
Sophia grabbed his arm. “Now? Our trip isn’t over. You promised to do all those things with me.”
He looked at her coldly. “We can take a trip
anytime. We can do those things later. I have
something important to do.”
She glared at him, her breathing ragged, voice.
choked with tears. “All for her? You used to stay
with me even when you lost million-dollar deals. Now you’re leaving me for her?”
“I’m not going. Let her leave. Where would she go
that’s better than what we have? Who knows,
maybe she’s just playing hard to get.”
“She’s your sister, but I’m your sister too. You
survived all those years without her. So what if she
leaves? Good. Now no one can take my home.
away.”
Christopher had never seen Sophia like this, so
unreasonable, so spoiled.
He slapped her across the face.
“Enough. Listen to yourself. If she had never been
lost, you would never have been in this family. You
can’t compare to her.”
Sophia clutched her cheek, staring at the brother
who had always spoiled her.
“You hit me. For her. You’re not the same. If I’d
known, I’d rather be dead.”
She ran toward the ocean.
But Christopher didn’t chase her like he used to.
He just watched her coldly. “Stay here then. Live or
die, it’s nothing to me.”
Sophia stopped, her feet in the water.
Then Christopher seemed to remember
something and walked toward her.
“Give me the gold locket. The one Mom and Dad left. It was always hers. It’s time to give it back.”
