My Husband Said I Was Fake So I’d Learn To Be Obedient Chapter 04

The person who helped me was a nurse heading home after her shift.

I didn’t dare get her in trouble, so I only asked for a few fever reducers and left.

But less than two days later, she was fired from the hospital anyway.

When I heard the news, I had just found a dishwashing job in a rough neighborhood on the outskirts of the city.

The elderly owner looked at me with such kindness that my eyes stung. In the end, I still pushed the paperwork back to him.

“Thank you for the offer, really. But I’m sorry. I can’t take this job.”

Adrian hadn’t even spared a nurse who had given me a few fever reducers. How could he possibly spare an old man who gave me a job?

When I reached the edge of the neighborhood, a gaunt man suddenly approached and handed me a business card.

“Modeling gig. Paid daily. Interested?”

He told me the job was simple. Makeup, photos, quick cash, good pay. The only requirement was that I looked good on camera.

I barely heard the rest.

I was too sick. Even after taking the medicine, it barely helped.

Since I desperately needed money, I took the card.

The man immediately grinned and said he could take me to meet the boss.

I followed him through several deserted side streets until we finally reached the entrance of an industrial park.

Just as I was about to walk in, a hand clamped hard around my wrist.

Adrian stood in front of me, his expression dark with anger. Two bodyguards in black stood behind him.

“Evelyn Bennett, have you really sunk this low? The second you leave me, you’re that eager to sell yourself?”

I was dragged into the car by force. Only after Adrian’s bodyguards beat the man until he could barely move did I realize what kind of place I had almost walked into.

“No, I…”

“No what?” Adrian cut me off coldly. “Are you going to tell me that a spoiled heiress like you couldn’t even recognize a scam this obvious?”

I closed my eyes and said nothing more.

Adrian took me to a villa in the suburbs. He said there would be a party there that night and told me not to show my face and embarrass him.

Before he left, he ordered someone to send me an Alaskan king crab.

But he had forgotten that Chloe was the one who loved seafood.

I was allergic to shellfish.

After forcing down a few bites of something else, exhaustion crashed over me. I fell onto the bed and sank into a heavy sleep.

I slept for a long time, until someone suddenly yanked me out of bed with brutal force.

Adrian’s eyes were bloodshot as he roared at me without explaining anything.

“Where is the baby?”

He pulled me so hard I stumbled. My fever-clouded mind could not process what he meant.

His grip tightened, and he jerked me forward, his jaw clenched.

“Leo is missing. The last person caught on security footage pushing the stroller was wearing the same coat as you.”

I wanted to tell him that I had been sleeping the entire afternoon.

He could ask anyone at the party. I hadn’t left this room the entire time.

But before I could say a word, Chloe rushed in sobbing and dropped to her knees at my feet.

“Evie, I know you hate me, but the baby is innocent! Please give Leo back to me. I’ll give you anything you want!”
