My Husband Said I Was Fake So I’d Learn To Be Obedient Chapter 03

Before I could answer, Chloe, sitting in the passenger seat, immediately wrapped both hands around Adrian’s arm and said sweetly, “Adrian, Evie is definitely putting on an act.”

“She used to pull this kind of pity stunt all the time just to make you feel sorry for her, remember?”

“Last week, didn’t she lock herself out on the balcony on purpose and spend the whole night in the cold, just so you’d get worried enough to cancel an important meeting?”

Adrian’s hand froze on the car door.

The warmth in his eyes vanished, replaced by cold suspicion.

He thought I had tricked him again.

But that time, Chloe had been the one who locked me out on the balcony.

No, it was not just that time. It had always been like that.

I had tried to explain before, but no one had ever believed me. So this time, I did not know what else I could say.

I only watched as Adrian rolled up the window and the car slowly drove away.

That night, the temperature dropped to fourteen degrees Fahrenheit. I curled up on the bench at the bus stop, hugged my knees, and stayed there until dawn.

When I opened my eyes again, my whole body was burning. My head throbbed as if it were about to split open, and my limbs were so weak I could barely move.

After struggling to sit up, I heard several harsh voices nearby.

“Isn’t that the woman from the video?”

“She has no shame. She stole her own sister’s husband.”

“A fake heiress still has the nerve to show her face in public? If it were me, I would crawl into a hole and disappear.”

“No…” I instinctively tried to explain.

But the moment I spoke, I realized my throat felt as if it had been cut open. Even breathing hurt.

On the giant screen across the street, the morning news was playing.

A reporter held a microphone out to Chloe, whose eyes were shining with tears.

“My sister isn’t the Bennett family’s biological daughter. For all these years, she lied to the Bennett family, and she lied to the man I love.”

“Now she’s come between Adrian and me. I don’t want to hurt anyone, but my baby deserves a family with both parents.”

Adrian stood beside her and gently pulled her into his arms.

“Sweetheart, don’t worry. You’re the only one I’ve ever loved.”

My stomach suddenly churned.

I gripped my suitcase and dry-heaved again and again.

I could still remember the day Adrian proposed to me. He had gotten down on one knee, his voice low and solemn.

“Evelyn Bennett, you saved my life. I’ll spend the rest of my life repaying you.”

But now, he was the one who had forged the DNA test report. He was also the one who had thrown me out.

“Evelyn, a year will pass quickly. Just put up with it.”

The whispers around me grew louder until a child suddenly threw a rock at me.

“You bad woman! You stole someone else’s husband!”

The sudden sting snapped me back to reality.

With countless contemptuous stares on me, I pressed a hand to my burning forehead and stumbled away.

The fever made the whole world spin around me. Only one thought remained in my mind. I had to get to a hospital and save my baby.

But none of the urgent care clinics along the way would treat me.

“You went after a taken man on purpose. You deserve this.”

I crouched by the roadside for a long time, my mind drifting in and out, but I did not cry.

After mechanically brushing the snow from my coat, I stood up again and staggered forward.

I had left my suitcase behind.

Inside were the few memories Adrian and I had left from the past three years.

There was the love letter he had slipped to me back in college, our wedding photo taken by the sea, and our marriage certificate.
