He Played Dead, I Played the Headlines Chapter 11
“You bastard! You messed up yourself, and now you’re blaming us? We even stood up for you.”
In the end, they beat him until he flopped on the ground like a dead fish.
Just then, Julie called. Her piercing cries came through the phone. “What do I do? Everyone’s attacking me online!
“Didn’t I tell you to stop posting? Didn’t you delete the old posts?”
“I hid them. But someone screen-recorded everything! Now, my sponsor found out about it and dumped me. I worked for nothing these past months… Can you send me some money?”
“Get lost. I don’t have any money. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have lost her.”
They ended up arguing over the phone.
Later, word spread that the Cassimo family went bankrupt. They used to live lavishly, relying on me to cover their expenses. Now that I was gone, Matteo couldn’t sustain anything.
His precious mistress was abandoned as well, constantly attacked and humiliated online.
Eventually, someone even exposed the whole truth, and Matteo became the target of everyone’s scorn. Some people even spat at him.
Driven out of his villa by creditors, Matteo stood on the edge of a high-rise building, dejected and lost.
Fireworks suddenly lit up the sky. For a moment, the brilliant lights sparked a glimmer of hope.
But the next second, the lights formed words across the sky that read, “Happy first anniversary, Mrs. Valente!”
At the sight of it, anger surged inside him, and tears spilled from his eyes. In a moment of despair, he jumped.
However, he didn’t die. The firefighters saved him.
But he was left half-paralyzed and burdened with debt. Left with no other choice, he fled like a stray dog, beginning a life on the run.
At some point, the live chat comments disappeared, and I lost my only source of news about Matteo.
But it didn’t matter. Because now, the only person I cared about was William.
A year into our marriage, I finally allowed myself to fall in love with him.
He treated me well. In every small detail of our daily lives, he cared for me. Every little thing that had to do with me, he paid extreme attention to.
To William, it didn’t matter when I started to love him. As long as it was me, everything he did was worth it.
