Gold Digger? She’s the Richest Donna Chapter 07

His voice wasn’t loud, but it sucked all the noise out of the lobby instantly. The air froze solid.

The temperature of the room dropped straight to zero.

Yet my chest burned, my eyes stung hot, and my voice caught in my throat before I could speak, “I’ve never let you go public with who I am because I don’t want special treatment. I just want to be

normal.”

I didn’t want to walk out the door with a squad of soldiers shadowing me everywhere.

I just wanted to go to work like everyone else, save lives, heal the sick.

Damian sighed softly. He brushed the tear tracks off my face with the gentle pad of his thumb. “I

spoke too harshly. Don’t cry.”

But my tears wouldn’t stop. He could only murmur soothing words and keep wiping them away for

That was when the crowd started to stir. People exchanged glances, then suddenly turned their anger on the hotel. “What kind of five-star service is this? The staff has an appalling attitude!”

“Mrs. Montague was just dressed simply, and you treated her like a beggar?”

“She clearly said she was looking for her kid’s seashells, but you tried to throw her out!”

Cold sweat beaded on the hotel manager’s forehead. He forced himself forward. “Mr. Montague,

this is all a misunderstanding! We thought this lady…”

“Thought my wife was a thief?” Damian’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “You posted her full-face photo on the lost and found notice, called her out by name as a thief. Her lock screen is a photo of our whole family. Are you all blind?”

The manager hung his head, sweat pouring down his face. “We thought… we thought she edited it. We’d never met Mrs. Montague before, so we just…”

Bang!

Damian suddenly kicked over a nearby trash can. The loud crash made everyone in the room flinch.

“A mistake is a mistake. I don’t want excuses.” His voice was as cold as ice. “Right now, you will apologize to my wife immediately. Or else…” He scanned the room, a cold smirk tugging at his

mouth. “Starting today, no member of the Montague family or any of our business partners will ever step foot in this hotel again.”

Everyone in the room knew exactly how heavy that threat was. In the underworld of the East Coast, no one was crazy enough to cross the Montague family for a single hotel.

Under the contemptuous looks from the surrounding guests, the manager and the waiter finally realized how much trouble they’d gotten themselves into.

They bowed deeply to us. “Mr. Montague, Mrs. Montague, we were blind to our betters. We offer our deepest apologies! We’ll comp your room tonight. Will this compensation be acceptable?”

The waiter, who’d been so arrogant just moments earlier, stared up at me trembling, his eyes full of begging.

I’d met enough people in my life. I could tell he was still hiding something.

I spoke coldly, “About the lies you told about me earlier? You can save that for the police. I won’t let my family handle this for me, but I will get the justice I’m owed.

“If it wasn’t Mrs. Montague standing here today, if it really was just an ordinary person, they’d probably be down at the station by now. Why would they be getting an apology from you?”

Sirens wailed closer. The waiter dropped to his knees with a thud, pointing at Selina and shouting, “It was her! She told me she saw Mrs. Montague steal the phone! I was just tricked by her!”

Selina’s face went white. “That’s a lie! I’ve been with Vincent this whole time. When would I have had time to talk to a waiter like you?”

“If you say that, Selina, just pull the security footage!” The waiter didn’t hold back anymore.

Selina stepped back, forcing her voice to stay steady. “I’m a lawyer. Think twice before you falsely accuse me, do you understand the consequences?”

The waiter was struck speechless. When the police walked through the door, he panicked and started begging Damian over and over. “Mr. Montague, believe me! It really was her, she wanted to frame Mrs. Montague…”

“I can testify.” Vincent stepped forward suddenly.

Selina went completely pale. She couldn’t believe he’d betray her.
