My Parents Spoiled Adopted Daughter While Neglected Me, I Sneaked To Hometown Pack Chapter 09
I never wanted to bring any of this up. But today, IÂ
would.Â
“When you first brought me back to the pack house, you said Amy was sick all the time, so I should stay out of her way.”Â
“So while you ate in the dining room, I ate in the kitchen. Hiding. Not for ten days. Not for ten months. For ten years.”Â
“You always made Amy’s favorite food. You never -not once–asked what I liked.”Â
I thought about those years hunched over my plate in that tiny kitchen, and I wanted to scream.Â
“Clothes? When I got to Ironclaw Pack, you said you didn’t have time to take me shopping. So you just gave me Amy’s old stuff.”Â
“Even now, Mom, can you remember even one time in ten years when you took me to a store? You only ever bought Amy’s size. Isn’t that right?”Â
My Luna mother covered her mouth and startedÂ
crying silently.Â
She couldn’t look at me. All she could say was,Â
“Hannah… I’m sorry. I didn’t realize. It’s all myÂ
fault.”Â
But she did realize. She just didn’t want to put inÂ
the effort for me.Â
And the shame she felt now? It was only becauseÂ
I’d called her out. So no. I couldn’t feel sorry for herÂ
tears.Â
“Housing? You said there weren’t enough rooms in the pack house because visiting pack eldersÂ
needed them.”Â
“So you gave me a storage closet off Amy’s room.Â
No windows. No heat in the winter.”Â
“When it got cold, I had to pile coats on top of myself. When it got hot, I used a fan.”Â
“And even that, Amy said the fan noise botheredÂ
her.”Â
“And don’t even get me started onÂ
transportation…”Â
“Enough!”Â
Lawrence’s whole face had turned purple. He cutÂ
me off.Â
But I could’ve gone on for a whole day and nightÂ
and still not covered everything.Â
Training? Amy had a car pick her up. Since sheÂ
didn’t want me in it, I had to walk from the pack house to the training grounds.Â
If I left late, I’d have to run.Â
And watch her car pass me by.Â
Even this trip to Silvermoon Fen, I knew they were only taking me along to be a support system forÂ
Amy.Â
The room went dead silent.Â
The only sounds were two she–wolves crying.Â
One was my birth mother.Â
The other was Mrs. Vane.Â
Mrs. Vane, someone who’d only known me for aÂ
few days, was sobbing like her heart was breakingÂ
over my pain.Â
A stranger felt more for me in five minutes than my own mother had in ten years.Â
Then Amy’s familiar wail cut through the quiet.Â
“It’s all my fault! Everything is my fault! I tookÂ
Hannah’s place!”Â
She bolted for the balcony and climbed onto theÂ
ledge.Â
“I’ll give Hannah back her place as a Raven. I wasÂ
never their real daughter anyway. I didn’t deserve all that love they gave me.”Â
“Hannah, don’t blame Mom and Dad and myÂ
brother. They just love me too much.”Â
Lawrence started running toward her. “Amy, noneÂ
of this is your fault. Don’t do this.”Â
I stepped in front of him and blocked him.Â
“That’s enough.”Â
I pointed out the window, my voice dripping withÂ
sarcasm.Â
“This is the first floor. Let her jump. I’d love to seeÂ
what happens.”Â
Lawrence blinked. “The… first floor?”Â
The air filled with a mortifying kind ofÂ
embarrassment.
