My Parents Spoiled Adopted Daughter While Neglected Me, I Sneaked To Hometown Pack Chapter 07
“I’m… sorry?” I asked, my voice shaking.Â
Had my sister moved?Â
Fear washed over me.Â
The woman didn’t say anything at first. She just studied my face.Â
Then her eyes went wide. “Are you Hannah?”Â
I nodded.Â
“Oh my goddess! You just appeared like The MoonÂ
Goddess herself!”Â
“Come in, come in, come in…”Â
She practically pulled me inside.Â
Before I could ask, she said,Â
“I’m your sister’s mate’s mother. Call me Mrs.Â
Vane.”Â
“Your sister went out hunting. I’ll call her right now. Just wait right here.”Â
Her excitement threw me off at first.Â
But then I looked around the apartment, andÂ
everything–made sense.Â
There were photos everywhere. Baby pictures ofÂ
me, my parents, my sister.Â
The bunk beds we used to share were still there,Â
exactly the same.Â
And on the nightstand, there was a framed pictureÂ
of a girl who looked a lot like me, older than the kidÂ
in the other photos.Â
Mrs. Vane explained from behind me.Â
“Your sister paid someone to take your childhoodÂ
photos and age them up–so she’d know you theÂ
second she saw you as an adult.”Â
“If it wasn’t for that picture, I wouldn’t have had aÂ
clue who you were just now.”Â
“She’s been waiting for you to come home everyÂ
single day. She… misses you like crazy.”Â
She’d wanted me back so badly that her longing.Â
had seeped into everyone around her. My arrivalÂ
wasn’t a shock, it was a miracle they’d beenÂ
praying for.Â
I couldn’t hold back my tears anymore. They justÂ
poured out. “Don’t cry, sweetheart. You’re home.Â
This is happy. No crying.”Â
But even as she said it, Mrs. Vane’s eyes went red.Â
“Lie down and rest for a bit. She’ll be back soon.”Â
Maybe I was exhausted from the trip. Or maybe itÂ
was just that I hadn’t felt this safe in ten years.Â
Breathing in the familiar scent of my old blanket, IÂ
fell into a deep sleep.Â
I don’t know how long I was out. But at someÂ
point, I felt someone gently touching my face.Â
A palm just like my adoptive mother’s used to feelÂ
when she’d soothe me to sleep.Â
I opened my eyes slowly.Â
And there she was. My sister. Her face so familiarÂ
it hurt. Her eyes swollen and red.Â
“Evelyn!”Â
My voice cracked.Â
“Hannah. You’re finally home. Have you been okayÂ
all these years?”Â
Her voice was low and thick, like she was choking.Â
back everything she wanted to say.Â
All the hurt from the past decade came rushingÂ
back. I didn’t want to be strong anymore. I sobbed.Â
“No! I wasn’t okay. They were all mean to me!”Â
She didn’t hesitate. She threw herself on top of meÂ
and burst into tears.Â
“If there’d been any way for me to take care of you back then, I never would’ve let them take you.”Â
That one sentence said everything.Â
But back then, there was nothing she could do.Â
Evelyn told me that after my birth parents took meÂ
away, she was taken in by a kind werewolf familyÂ
here on Frostveil Island.Â
Her mate’s parents.Â
They’d taken her in as a daughter. But then fateÂ
stepped in, and they turned out to be true mates.Â
All these years, Evelyn had stayed in this oldÂ
apartment. Because she was afraid I’d come back.Â
and not find her.Â
When she turned eighteen, she went all the way toÂ
Ironclaw Pack territory looking for me. But thatÂ
land was too vast, and a normal werewolf like her couldn’t just walk up to an Alpha.Â
She wandered for a full day and night without finding me.Â
Her mate Eric had to come get her and bring her home. And then she got so sick she was bedridden for weeks.Â
But that was all in the past now. All we had leftÂ
was the joy of being together again.Â
Evelyn wiped my tears. I wiped hers.Â
“You must be hungry. Come eat. See what I madeÂ
for you.”Â
She opened the bedroom door, and the smell ofÂ
delicious meat hit me.Â
The whole table was covered in my favorite foods.Â
Mrs. Vane and her family were waiting for me toÂ
sit down. “Evelyn said these are all your favorites. Try my cooking.”Â
I turned to my sister’s mate. “Eric… thank you.”Â
He smiled warmly. “Don’t even worry about it. You happy means Evelyn’s happy. And Evelyn happy means the whole family’s happy. We’ll cook forÂ
you every single day.”Â
He was kind. Genuine. He made me laugh.Â
Happiness finally felt like something I was allowedÂ
to have again.Â
But a storm was brewing. One I didn’t see coming.
