While He Played Love, I Played War Chapter 02

While He Played Love, I Played War Chapter 02

Derek’s hand froze. He looked up at me.

“Who told you that?”

“Does it matter?” I asked.

His expression darkened. “Are you following me?”

“Answer my damn question.”

He stood up and loosened his tie.

“She’s pregnant—what does that have to do with me? A pack member is pregnant, I accompanied her to see a pack doctor. That’s just concern for my pack.”

I almost laughed.

Concern for a pack member… to the point of booking a high-tier pack doctor that ordinary pack members can’t even access. What a charitable Alpha.

“So you personally accompany every pregnant she-wolf in the pack to see high-level pack doctors?”

“Madison Grayson.” He called my full name. “Don’t twist my words like that.”

I looked at him. “Then at least make your actions look better.”

That flicker of guilt on his face disappeared instantly, replaced by impatience.

“I don’t want to argue. My mother’s birthday is next week. Prepare for it. Don’t embarrass us in front of outsiders.”

With that, he went upstairs.

I sat in the living room, staring at that strand of blonde hair for a long time.

When I had seen enough, I took out my phone and texted Cassie.

[Next time your mate has anything in his car, don’t touch it. Take a photo and send it to me.]

She replied quickly: [Got it, Luna.]

The next day, Luna Sienna—Derek’s mother—called me.

She opened immediately. “Madison, Derek said you’re in charge of my birthday. Make it grand. Don’t be stingy and embarrassing.”

“Okay,” I said.

“And keep two seats at the main table.”

“Who’s coming?”

She paused. “Derek’s friends.”

My grip tightened around the phone. “Omega Morgan?”

There was a silence.

Then she chuckled coldly. “So you already know?”

I didn’t answer.

She stopped pretending altogether.

“Since you know, good. She’s carrying the heir of our pack. What attitude are you putting on?”

I lowered my voice. “Sienna, do you know he’s cheating?”

“Men having something on the side—can you even call that cheating?” she snapped. “You’ve been Luna of this pack for ten years and still haven’t produced an heir. Are we supposed to keep going without a successor? What about the future of the pack? A pack can’t survive without an Alpha.”

I let out a quiet laugh.

“I can’t have children. Whose fault is that—have you forgotten?”

Her voice immediately sharpened. “Don’t bring up those medical reports! Derek has a child now, which proves there’s no problem with him. Stop clinging to the Luna position when you can’t even give this pack an heir!”

I moved the phone slightly away from my ear.

She continued without pause. “At the birthday banquet, behave yourself. Don’t make a scene. If you’re sensible, once the child is born, they can even call you ‘Mom.'”

I hung up.

One of the pack maids had been nearby and heard everything. Her expression looked awkward.

I said calmly, “Keep the menu as planned. Just don’t put kiwi in the salad.”

“The Alpha is allergic to kiwi.”

“I know.”

I had remembered everything for him for ten years.

Starting today, I wouldn’t remember anymore.

…

On the third day, Cassie asked me out. She handed me her phone.

In the photos, Derek’s car back seat showed a receipt wedged between the seats: a maternity store purchase—crib, 32,800. Paid by Derek.

Another photo showed an Evercrest Hall parking slip.

I zoomed in. “Did Logan ever go up?”

“No. The Alpha didn’t allow it. He made Logan wait by the roadside and went up alone every time.”

“Room number?”

“2505.”

I asked her to send the photos to me.

She hesitated. “Luna… one more thing. Logan got drunk last night and said Alpha recently asked him to change cars.”

“Why?”

“To replace him.”
