The Luna’s Last Drop Chapter 06
Kieran’s shrill cry seemed to tear straight out fromÂ
the depths of his soul.Â
My body went completely limp. He caught me andÂ
dropped heavily to his knees, pressing hardÂ
against the oozing puncture wound on my arm inÂ
a frantic attempt to stop the bleeding.Â
The blood wouldn’t cease flowing. Every piece ofÂ
gauze was soaked through the moment it wasÂ
placed, and fresh dressings were instantly dyed aÂ
glaring crimson.Â
Staring at the scattered scraps of paper and theÂ
monitor blaring harsh alarms, the healer lookedÂ
utterly defeated. “Code blue! AdministerÂ
epinephrine! Now!”Â
Kieran grabbed the healer by the collar, savageÂ
amber light blazing in his eyes. “Save her! She has to live! I order you all to do whatever it takes toÂ
bring her back!”Â
The healer trembled violently in his grip, his teethÂ
chattering. But this time, for the first time, hetÂ
actually roared back at the Alpha. “I told you,Â
Alpha! I told you her body couldn’t take any moreÂ
of this! This is all your doing!”Â
“She has stopped breathing! We are already doingÂ
everything we can to revive her!”Â
“Shut up!” Kieran bellowed. “I want her alive! SheÂ
didn’t die in that rogue attack, and she’s not dyingÂ
now! She carries the Moon Goddess‘ blessing! SheÂ
promised she would stay by my side forever!”Â
No one answered him. The ECG trace on theÂ
monitor grew flatter and flatter.Â
He stumbled back to the bedside and gripped myÂ
shoulders tightly, biting his lip so hard that bloodÂ
seeped out. “Vee, wake up. I swear I’ll never drawÂ
your blood again, never let anyone lay a hand onÂ
you. I was wrong about Elena… I’m so sorry!”Â
He rested his forehead against my cold hand, his whole frame shaking violently, yet my limbs.Â
remained cold and stiff without the slightestÂ
response.Â
“Daddy…” Scarlett stood in the doorway, stillÂ
clutching the pen tight in her grasp. Her face wasÂ
as pale as paper, and the bloodstain on her dressÂ
had long dried into a dark brown mark.Â
She glanced at me then turned to Kieran, “Is Mommy still angry with me?”Â
Kieran slowly turned his head. The look in his eyesÂ
made Scarlett step back in fear. In the past, heÂ
would always rush to comfort her the second sheÂ
cried, but now his gaze was fixed firmly on the pen.Â
in her hand.Â
Frightened, Scarlett hid the pen behind her back and fled away.Â
A nurse happened to pass by in the hallway.Â
Scarlett reached out and tugged at her sleeve asÂ
usual, “Excuse me, I want a cup of warm milk.”Â
The nurse stopped in her tracks. She looked downÂ
at Scarlett, her face expressionless, but her eyesÂ
as cold as ice. “Young miss, your mother just died. There’s no warm milk for you right now. Go away.”Â
Scarlett froze on the spot, utterly stunned.Â
Then she turned and went back to find Kieran.Â
“Daddy…” She hesitated. “What about my dance rehearsal tomorrow? Selene said she would goÂ
with me.”Â
Kieran didn’t look up. He was clutching theÂ
sweater I had taken off, his knuckles white fromÂ
the strain.Â
After waiting for a long while, Scarlett ran outside.Â
alone. She tripped and scraped her knee on the corridor floor. Sniffling softly, she called outÂ
instinctively, ‘Mommy…Â
The hallway stood empty and silent. The onlyÂ
scent lingering in the air was the metallic smell ofÂ
blood drifting out from the operating room.Â
Scarlett waited and waited, yet no one came toÂ
hold her or check on her injury.Â
Finally, she burst into tears.
