Frozen Bonds, Broken Heart Chapter 04
I checked out of the pack hospital that night.
The next day, I went to the bridal boutique in downtown Aspen.
“Luna Elena! Your custom gown is ready!”
The salesgirl greeted me warmly. The dress cost two million dollars and was embroidered with Blackwood Pack’s crest—a symbol of the Alpha’s mate and the pack’s future.
“I’m here to call the whole order off,” I said.
Her smile froze. “Luna, the deposit is non-refundable per policy…”
“Keep it,” I said. “Charge the rest to my card. Cancel everything.”
After the mating ceremony was called off, I moved out of the pack house.
No arguments, no final words. I left Blackwood Pack without looking back.
Damon came home from the pack hospital with Sarah, expecting to find me waiting.
He called my name down the empty hallways, his voice echoing against the stone walls.
“Don’t worry, Damon,” Sarah said, leaning against him softly. “She’s probably just out shopping.”
Damon’s phone rang. His Beta was on the line.
“Alpha, is something going on? Your ceremony venue was canceled. The ring was returned. The dress is being refunded.”
“Some rival must’ve outbid us.,” Damon snapped, his voice echoing through the empty mansion. “Triple our offer right away. I don’t care what it costs. Elena and I are having that ceremony in two weeks.”
There was a pause on the line.
“Alpha…” The Beta’s voice trembled. “The person who canceled everything… it was the Luna. She terminated the contracts herself.”
Damon went still.
The phone slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor.
“No,” he whispered to the empty room. “She waited years for this. She wouldn’t…”
The pack house had never felt so empty.
Even my scent was fading.
“Alpha,” the Beta’s voice crackled from the speaker, “I’ve confirmed it three times. Elena Hale terminated the contracts herself. The ceremony is off.”
Damon threw the phone aside. It shattered against the marble floor.
He tore through the house like a wounded beast and kicked my old bedroom door open.
“Elena! Where are you! Quit hiding and come out!”
Sarah had never seen him like this. She froze in the hallway, her bandaged head throbbing.
“God, Damon, calm down,” she murmured, reaching for him. “Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding.”
He shoved her aside and stormed into my room.
It was empty. Nothing left. The closet doors hung open, holding only a few discarded old clothes. Even the smell of my perfume was almost gone.
“Where is she?!” he roared.
He dialed my number again and again.
“The number you have reached is not in service.”
He didn’t understand.
That phone had sunk to the bottom of the Arctic Ocean, just like my old life.
“Find her!” Damon bellowed at his pale-faced Beta standing in the foyer. ” Burn the whole city to the ground if you must! I don’t care what it costs—bring Elena back!”
