From Fat Girl to Fated Mate Chapter 01

From Fat Girl to Fated Mate Chapter 01

I was the fat joke of the entire high school—the cringey, obsessed fan that the moody star Alpha Ethan Carter despised the most.

But one day, I discovered that the handsome guy’s phone wallpaper was a photo I took last year.

I was very thin back then, and he didn’t recognize me.

……

Before the track and field meet, the class was handing out team uniforms. Mine was buried at the very bottom of the pile.

After the last uniform had been claimed, the class president finally held mine up in an overly dramatic gesture.

“This XXXL, who does it belong to? Let me see…”

“Josie, obviously,” someone in the back row cut in.

“Yeah, who else in this class is a complete pig?”

“Pigs are cuter than her. Just looking at all that fat makes me want to throw up my lunch.”

I took the uniform without a word.

Over the summer after sophomore year, I got sick.

The doctor told me I needed to take medication for two years. Those pills contained steroids that made my body blow up like a balloon, completely out of control.

So I gave up ballet.

I became invisible at school, quietly nursing a crush on the school’s biggest star. No one was ever supposed to know.

But somehow, they found out.

One afternoon, my backpack was knocked over, everything inside spilling out.

In the front row of the classroom, the blonde, perfect cheer captain started reading aloud from my diary:

[Saw Ethan today. He looked taller, more dazzling. I feel like I’ll never catch up to him…]

I’d written that freshman year. Even though my wolf didn’t feel that strongly about him anymore, my cheeks instantly burned with embarrassment.

I lunged forward and snatched the diary back from her. “Give it back!”

The crowd immediately closed in around me.

“That fat pig actually thinks she has a chance with an Alpha?”

“Everyone knows he’s already found his fated mate. This is just pathetic.”

“Disgusting.”

Just then, Ethan happened to walk by.

“Hey, Ethan!” The cheer captain stopped him and pointed straight at me. “Hey! This girl is obsessed with you!”

Everyone giggled.

His gaze flicked in my direction.

I lowered my head, wishing I could disappear into the ground.

She laughed. “Pretty gross, right?”

He looked away, already uninterested. “Yeah, kind of.”

By the next day, the entire grade knew I was Ethan’s stalker and number one fan.

Ethan wasn’t just popular. He was our pack’s future Alpha, the kind of guy whose name alone opened every door. Because of that, strangers lined up to come see me and point fingers.

“Oh my God, she’s huge. And greasy looking.”

“Even if Ethan were blind, he’d never go for someone like her.”

“If I looked like that, I’d crawl into a hole and never come out.”

I went around the corner and tore my diary into pieces.

I tried everything, starving myself until my stomach cramped, running until my lungs burned. But thanks to the steroids, it was all useless.

Nothing would change until I stopped the meds.
