I Faked an Affair for a Divorce but My Cold Husband Refused to Let Me Go Chapter 07

The TV broketoo. Everything else still played, but

it wouldn’t play workout videos.

The butler told me apologetically.

Every morning at eight, they vacuumed the whole

house. I couldn’t work out in the living room

anymore.

I took a deep breath.

I started baking.

When the butler asked curiously what I was doing,

I smiled and said, I like making people happy with

my baking.”

Lucas stood at the top of the stairs, his face cold, his head turning slowly as he watched my every

move between the kitchen island and the counter.

I ate the burnt cookies myself.

I gave the curious butler two pieces of the batch

that had actually turned out.

The rest I packed into a paper bag and tied with a

ribbon.

Homemade treats should have looked like proof,

right? Proof that I was seeing someone and

serious about him.

I went back to the bedroom, got dressed, then

said, Mr. Fred, I have a meeting in the lab. I’ll be

out for a bit.”

Lucas leaned against the kitchen island, expressionless, staring at the empty baking tray.

He lifted his eyes to me.

Was he going to explode? Was he going to

announce a divorce?

My heart practically lodged in my throat.

But he only raised an eyebrow, and he even let a

cold, mocking smirk show.

Sure,he said. Go.”

Then he walked off.

I stepped closer, then stopped cold.

The bag of cookies I’d left on the table was gone.

Even the burnt ones, the ones I hadn’t finished

eating, were gone too.

Lucas.

I could’ve given them to my advisor and lab mates,

and he just threw them all away?

I was so angry I could barely think.

Behind his back, I spammed him with texts from

the anonymous number.

[Your wife said you’d been in a bad mood at home

lately. She was scared. She cries for me every

night.]

[Mr. Fred, why haven’t you divorced her yet? Why

keep clinging on like this? Is winning really that

important to you?]

[She didn’t owe you anything. This marriage is just

a business deal. You already got what you wanted,

so why wouldn’t you let her go?]

Lucas replied.

Lucas: [She cried?]

I stared at the message, blank.

Is that all you got from that? The point was the divorce.

Then another message came through.

Lucas: [You lived in the Northgate district too?]

I broke out in a cold sweat. How had he traced

that?

Before I could deny anything, Lucas followed up.

Lucas: [I was close to finding you, you filthy piece of trash.]

I shut the phone off in a panic.

My palms were sweaty.

Time was running out.

I had to take a risk. I couldn’t keep holding back!
