A Decade of Misplaced Devotion Chapter 09

“I’ve got tons of videos on my phone. You really want everyone to see how sluttish you are in bed?” Laurent added, whipping out his phone.

Stella panicked. “You bastard! Forgot who put you on the map? Leak those, and I’ll bury you alive!”

Laurent didn’t back down. “Bring it! Worst case, we’ll go down together. Dragging the Stafford Group’s CEO down with me? Totally worth it.”

“You psycho!” Stella shrieked, winding up for another slap.

Laurent dodged, and soon they were clawing at each other like wildcats. I watched the circus without a

shred of emotion, just like the rubberneckers around me.

Miriam barreled in, joining her daughter to pummel Laurent. “This is all your fault, you homewrecking

gigolo! You ruined my daughter’s marriage! If we can’t be happy, neither will you!”

Miriam was built like an ox, with the strength of a grown man.

Laurent quickly lost ground under their assault. His face darkened with malice. The next second, he

kicked Stella hard in the abdomen.

Her agonized scream echoed through the hall. Blood soon trickled down her legs, turning the scene into

utter chaos.

Miriam crouched beside her, freaking out. Vernon, on the other hand, was unfazed.

He sidled up to me. “See? Stella’s paid the price. Forgive her this once. I guarantee she’ll toe the line from

now on. To make it right, we can renegotiate the shares. As long as you two make it work, I’ll eat the loss- no biggie. But please, don’t withdraw your investments. And if it still bugs you, I’ve got a younger daughter. What do you say?”

Before I could fire back, Lynn sniped, “Mr. Stafford, right? Your scheming is so obvious it’s practically

slapping us in the face. Are you marrying off a daughter or selling one? What an eye-opener!”

Vernon’s face alternated between red and pale. “Who are you to butt in?”

I stepped in front of Lynn, my gaze icy. “And who are you to talk to my wife like that?”

Right in front of him, I called my lawyer and instructed him to handle the full withdrawal of my investments and shares.

I blanked on Vernon’s ashen face and turned to Lynn, apologetic. “Sorry you had to witness this mess.”

She shook her head gently. “Quite a spectacle! But it’s fine. Come on, babe. Our wedding is about to start.”

Laurent’s kick not only ended the pregnancy but also left Stella unable to have children ever again.
