Eight Months Pregnant, He Signed For My Death Chapter 01
On the day of my prenatal checkup, I realized my husband had booked me a post–abortion recovery package instead of aÂ
postpartum care plan.Â
I almost laughed, ready to tease him about the mistake.Â
But he spoke first, his tone calm and indifferent.Â
“It’s not a mistake. Actually, there’s something I need to tellÂ
you. I’ve been seeing a college girl on the side. She’s kind,Â
doesn’t care about status, and she’s never tried to interfereÂ
with our marriage.”Â
My smile froze.Â
“She’s pregnant now,” he continued. “I’ve already put her through enough. I’m not going to let our child suffer too. That baby deserves to be born legitimate.”Â
I lay stiff on the exam table, my body going cold as my voice trembled. “So what are you saying? You’re divorcing me to marry her?”Â
He casually wiped the ultrasound gel from my stomach, even smiling a little.Â
“What are you talking about? When I married you, I promised you’d be my only wife for life. Besides, your parents are gone. If we divorced, where would you even go?”Â
My mind went blank.Â
“I just want you to adopt Lexi’s baby,” he went on, as if discussing something completely ordinary. “And as for yourÂ

“And as for yourÂ
pregnancy, it’s better to terminate it. I don’t want youÂ
favoring your own child later and treating mine and Lexi’s unfairly.”Â
He handed me a surgical consent form, his expression composed.Â
“Be good and sign it. I promise, you’ll always be my legal wife. No one will ever replace you.”Â
I stared at him for a long moment.Â
Then I turned and walked unsteadily toward the operatingÂ
room.Â
“There’s no need,” I said softly. “Caleb Vance, I hope you never regret this decision.”Â
What he didn’t know was that in this world, I was the onlyÂ
woman who could bear him a child.Â
When I woke up, three days had passed.Â
The first thing I heard was a doctor’s voice.Â
“Mr. Vance, this was extremely risky. Terminating an eight–month pregnancy is already dangerous, but removing the uterus at the same time? She nearly bled out. We almostÂ
lost her.”Â
Caleb’s voice was calm, almost bored.Â
“I promised Lexi I’d only ever have one child, hers. The safest way is making sure Vivian can never get pregnant again.”Â
My heart stopped.Â
His gaze shifted, and our eyes met.Â
There was no panic, no guilt in his expression.Â
He simply stepped closer and tucked the blanket around me, sounding almost helpless.Â
“You heard that? I didn’t really have a choice. Lexi said the only way she’d agree to adoption was if the other womanÂ
couldn’t have kids. Since you were already having theÂ
procedure, I figured we might as well take care of everything at once. Saves you from another surgery later.”Â
Tears slipped from the corners of my eyes.Â
He reached out and wiped them away, even chuckling faintly.Â
“I didn’t expect removing a uterus during pregnancy to cause that much bleeding. Luckily, I brought in the best OB–GYNÂ
team for Lexi. You benefited from that too. Otherwise, youÂ
wouldn’t have made it.”Â
My entire body shook.Â
Summoning every ounce of strength, I lifted my hand andÂ
swung it at him.Â
“Caleb… you’re not even human.”Â
But my hand barely brushed his cheek, leaving no mark at all.Â
A small figure suddenly rushed forward with a scream.Â
The sharp crack of a slap echoed through the room as painÂ
exploded across my face.Â
I collapsed back onto the bed, the oxygen mask slipping away as I struggled to breathe.Â
Through my blurred vision, I saw a young woman standingÂ
protectively in front of Caleb, tears streaming down her face.Â
“How dare you hit him!” she shouted. “Do you even know heÂ
stayed outside the ICU for three days straight because of you?Â
If I hadn’t been bringing him meals every day, he would’veÂ
collapsed!”Â
Her voice broke as she glared at me.Â
“The man I care about this much… how can you treat him likeÂ
someone to vent your anger on?”Â
I didn’t miss the flicker in Caleb’s eyes.Â
That tenderness. That protectiveness.Â
I had seen it before.Â
The time I drank myself into alcohol poisoning to shield himÂ
at a business dinner, losing our first child in the process. ThatÂ
was the look he gave me.Â
The time debt collectors threatened to cut off his hand, and IÂ
knelt on the ground, sobbing, begging them to spare him,Â
even pawning the last keepsake my mother left me. That wasÂ
the look he gave me.Â
I had given him everything.Â
And yet in the end, it wasn’t worth even a single tear from hisÂ
new lover.
