After My Third Divorce From Godfather, I Will Never Come Back Chapter 09

e next evening, Andre was waiting outside my office.

My deputy reported that he had stood in the lobby for six hours.

The security guards had forced him out three times, but every time he was driven away, he came back

In the end, I grew impatient and told them to let him in.

When he pushed open the door, he was holding a bouquet of white roses.

The flowers were incredibly fresh, with droplets of water still resting on the petals.

They were the exact variety I used to love.

“Put them on the coffee table.”

I didn’t even raise my head as I continued reviewing the documents in front of me.

“And remember to take them with you when you leave.”

Andre didn’t move.

He simply stood three steps away from my desk, placed the flowers at his feet, and slowly bent one knee.

He knelt down.

The tip of my pen paused.

“What are you doing?”

“Rachel…”

He lifted his head.

His eyes filled with tear, and his voice was so hoarse it was almost broken.

“I’m sorry.”

“I know.”

I lowered my head and continued writing.

“You can leave now.”

“I sent Alice away.”

His words came out quickly, as if he was afraid that if he stopped, he would lose the courage to finish.

“I had my soldiers put her on a plane. I swear I will never see her again for the rest of my life. Rachel, I know I was wrong…”

I put down my pen and leaned back against my chair, watching him kneel on the carpet, speaking in a desperate and incoherent rush.

“I punished Alice, and I punished myself too.”

“For the past three years, every single day, I have thought about what would have happened if I had gone to the art exhibition to meet you that day…”

“If I had realized my feelings sooner…”

fyou hadn’t gotten on that plane…”

He moved forward on his knees twice.

Then he took a velvet box from inside his suit jacket and opened it with a snap.

Inside was a diamond ring.

The center stone was at least five carats, reflecting a dazzling light under the office lamps.

“Will you marry me again?”

He looked up at me, his eyes filled with desperation.

“This time, I swear there will only ever be you.”

“No matter if it’s Alice or anyone else who comes back, I won’t look at them again.”

“I’ll give you anything you want.”

“I’ll give you half of the Family’s power. No, I can give you everything if that’s what you want.”

“Rachel, please…”

“Andre.”

I interrupted him.

He immediately fell silent.

His eyes stayed fixed on my lips, filled with expectation, as if waiting for me to forgive him.

“Have you ever thought about why I was the one who handed you the divorce papers the third time?”

He froze.

“Because I finally understood.”

I stood up, walked around my desk, and stopped in front of the floor–to–ceiling windows.

Looking down at the bustling streets of New York, I spoke calmly.

“You never truly loved me.”

“You were only used to my presence.”

“You were used to believing that no matter what you did, I would always stay where I was and wait for you.”

“Alice was just your excuse.”

“You simply never loved me.”

“No, that’s not true…”

“Listen to me until I finish.”

I turned around and looked down at the man kneeling before me.

“You said you punished Alice, but your way of punishing her was simply sending her away, and then you Convinced yourself that you had already sacrificed enough for me.”

“Andre, even now, you still don’t understand where the real problem was.”

“You never put me first.”

I spoke slowly, each word clear.

“You protected Alice’s reputation because she was the daughter of someone who had contributed greatly to the Family.”

“You had dinner with her, bought paintings for her, took her to the hospital because her situation was special..

“Again and again, in every choice you made, I was always the last person you considered.”

“No…”

He struggled to stand, his voice breaking with tears.

“Rachel, I love you. I really do love you…”

“Enough.”

I looked at him coldly.

“I don’t want to see you again.”

I pressed the intercom button.

“Remove him.”

Two soldiers immediately entered the office.

They grabbed Andre’s arms from both sides and pulled him away.

He didn’t resist.

He only stared at me.

The tears he had been holding back finally fell from his eyes, dropping onto the carpet and leaving dark marks behind.

The door slowly closed between us.

And that was the last time we ever saw each other.
