Kneel, Darling, Your Trophy Wife Is Gone Chapter 06
“Stop… stop…!”
The fear still hadn’t faded from Hazel’s eyes. Her fingers clawed helplessly through the air while broken
gasps tore from her throat.
I was just about to let go.
Then suddenly, a brutal force slammed into me from the side.
I didn’t even see who moved first.
My entire body was thrown backward, crashing hard into the wall with a sickening bang. Pain exploded
through my back instantly, sharp enough to feel like my bones had cracked apart, and something metallic
surged into my throat.
I slid to the floor, vision blackening at the edges.
When I looked up again, Ethan had already pulled Hazel into his arms.
His jaw was tight with fury, his voice cold enough to freeze the room.
“Nora,” he said sharply, “is this how a Moretti Donna behaves? Throwing hands like some street trash?”
Hazel trembled against his chest, obvious finger marks still wrapped around her throat as tears streamed
down her face.
“Ethan…” Her voice broke apart weakly. “I was only trying to calm her down… then she suddenly started choking me… If you hadn’t gotten here in time… she would’ve killed me…”
Ethan lowered his head and gently rubbed her back.
“It’s okay,” he murmured softly. “I’m here now.”
And somehow, that was the moment I wanted to laugh.
So I did.
A quiet laugh. The kind that only came when something became absurd beyond repair.
Apparently, the woman I’d almost strangled to death was the “victim”. And I was the hysterical one.
I braced myself against the wall and forced myself to stand. My body was shaking, but not from fear.
From how completely cold I’d become inside.
Only then did Ethan finally look at me properly.
He released Hazel and walked over, his hand immediately closing around my wrist before pulling me straight
into his arms. The movement was familiar. Still gentle. Still terrifyingly intimate.
He lowered his head and slowly wiped the blood from my face with his thumb, just like he had countless
times before.
His voice dropped low. Almost expectant.
“Nora.”
“What do you want to say?”
“As long as you ask, I can still help you.”
My stomach twisted violently.
That familiar disgust crawled back up my throat again.
I shoved against his chest hard, trying to push him away-but before I could, the world suddenly went black.
When I woke again, I was already back in the hospital.
White ceiling. Harsh disinfectant. Ethan sitting beside the bed with a dark, unreadable expression.
“You’re awake.”
His voice stayed calm, which somehow felt more frightening than anger.
“Nora. Have you learned your lesson yet? Or are you still planning to keep fighting me?”
I turned my face away from him.
“And if I say no?” I stared blankly at the wall. “What else are you planning to do to humiliate me?”
For a second, the room fell completely silent.
Then Ethan laughed-a cold, humorless sound that sent a chill through the air.
“So you still refuse to give in.”
He stood up slowly. “Fine. But don’t regret it.”
The door slammed behind him hard enough to shake the entire floor.
Arthur remained standing nearby, hesitating before finally speaking carefully.
“Donna… why won’t you just lower your pride a little with Don? He really does care about you. If you’d only
soften toward him, he’d give in immediately.”
He sighed helplessly.
“You endured everything before. Why is this time different?”
I didn’t let him finish.
My phone vibrated once against the blanket.
A message from Damien appeared on the screen.
[Two more days.]
I stared at those words quietly for several seconds before replying.
[Got it.]
When I looked up again, breathing suddenly felt easier somehow. Like after drowning for six straight years, I had finally managed to break through the surface.
I looked at Arthur and said softly, “Because… there’s no point anymore.”
No point explaining myself.
No point enduring any longer.
No point pretending to be the perfect, elegant Donna everyone expected.
And no point continuing to play Ethan Moretti’s beautiful wife.
Arthur let out a quiet sigh before turning to leave.
After the door closed, the hospital room fell silent again.
For the next two days, Ethan never came back. Not even a single message.
But the news updates never stopped.
Ethan attending galas with Hazel. Ethan allowing reporters to mock me openly.
Headline after headline.
Like a public execution.
He was forcing me to bow my head again. Forcing me to turn back. Forcing me to become the same
obedient Nora who never fought back.
I only glanced at the articles once before coldly scrolling past them.
