He Married His Childhood Sweetheart for a Day, Then Lost Me Forever Chapter 08

he words had barely left my mouth when Keira, who was cutting cake nearby, burst out Because the scandal involved a high-ranking officer, the military removed Adrian from his post and suspended him pending/an investigation.

After finally getting out of the press conference, Keira fled straight to Adrian’s mansion.

A handful of reporters she couldn’t shake trailed right behind her.

The moment she walked in, she found Adrian slumped on the floor, hollow-eyed.

“Adrian, help me! Tell them the paper is mine! And those photos are all lies!”

“That wasn’t me. That wasn’t me.”

She clutched her head, crouched on the ground, and broke into hysterical sobs.

Adrian raised his lifeless eyes to look at her, then slowly stood up.

“Fine. I’ll clear things up for you.”

He opened the mansion door to face the wall of reporters and spoke.

“The real author of that research paper is Vivian Clarke. Keira Whitfield is an impostor.”

A shocked murmur rippled through the crowd.

Keira’s face went white. She lunged forward and grabbed Adrian by the collar. “Adrian, what are you saying? I asked you to defend me!”

Adrian shoved her off and faced the cameras.

“This research paper has always belonged to Vivian Clarke. Keira stole her work to boost her application for a medical advisory position.”

Every word was captured by the cameras and broadcast live.

“It’s all my fault. I changed the byline without permission. I drove my wife away because of a con artist.”

He paused, then slapped himself hard across the face.

“I killed my own child. I failed Vivian. It’s all on me.”

With every sentence, he hit himself again.

Keira screamed. “Adrian! Adrian, what’s wrong with you!”

She rushed forward to cover his mouth, terrified he would give the press even more ammunition against her.

But Adrian backhanded her so hard she hit the ground.

Before she could get up, he was on top of her, both hands locked around her throat.

“You… it’s all because of you. You provoked her. You drove Vivian away. You killed my baby. Give me back Vivian. Give me back my child.”

He kept choking Keira until she was about to foam at the mouth and black out.

The scene erupted into pandemonium. Some reporters hammered their shutter buttons, desperate not to miss the explosive story.

Others rushed forward and struggled to pry them apart.

Keira was hospitalized that same day. When she woke, she was no longer in her right mind.

She spent her days in a delusional haze, believing she and Adrian were still married.

Before long, she was transferred to a psychiatric facility.

Every day, she relived that birthday.

Adrian fared no better. Stripped of his rank, drowning in scandal, he became a public pariah.

Everyone who had hurt me had paid the price. My plan was complete.

After two months of recovery, my body had mostly healed.

One day, a package arrived from Adrian. Inside was a letter and a large envelope.

The letter contained a single line: “I’m sorry for everything I did. I don’t expect your forgiveness, but please accept these. I owe you this much.”

Curious, I opened the envelope. Inside was the original manuscript of my research paper.

The manuscript Adrian had taken for himself was returned to me untouched.

Also in the envelope were a bank card and the deeds to two luxury villas.

I checked the balance on the card. It held Adrian’s entire life savings.

I quietly put the money and the deeds away. I had lost a child and five years of my life. I deserved every bit of it.

When I picked up my phone, a new message from Nathan was waiting.

“Once you’ve fully recovered, if you’re looking for a fresh start, you’re welcome to work at my hospital. I’ll offer you a position with excellent pay.”

Things were finally looking up.

I was no longer the girl who relied on wishes to make things come true.

From now on, my wishes would be ones I made happen myself.
