The Unwanted Passenger Chapter 06
Sue leaned back on the headrest and shut her eyes.
Suddenly, Clement spoke up.
“Sue, I heard you want to divorce Harley. Is that true?”
Sue’s eyes flew open.
That had happened many years ago. She didn’t expect Clement to still remember it.
It was six years ago, when Tina was still in high school. Back then, she had been fighting incessantly with Harley.
All of their arguments had something to do with Clement.
“Sue, we’ve been married for so many years and I’m your husband. Why do you always side with Clement? If you like him so much, why don’t we get a divorce so you can marry him instead?”
She had been accused of this simply because she missed Harley’s call while at the hospital visiting Clement,
who had fallen sick.
She found Harley’s ridiculous accusation deeply frustrating.
There had been nothing between her and Clement.
Still, she couldn’t be bothered to explain herself.
Harley didn’t think that way, though. He was certain there was something going on between the two of them.
Sue wasn’t exactly mild–tempered, either. His constant provocation had lit a fuse within her. The fury made her drag Harley to the Civil Affairs Bureau.
“Fine! Since you don’t trust me, we’ll get a divorce right now.”
The two of them nearly officiated their separation at that time.
However, just as the officer was preparing to stamp on their documents and formalize the process, Tina’s teacher called.
Tina had fallen off a broken railing on the second floor.
Because of her accident, she and Harley completely forgot about their divorce and rushed to Tina’s school.
Fortunately, Tina didn’t injure her head and only suffered fractures in her arm and leg.
Harley never talked about a divorce again.
Clement knew about this, too.
Sue and Harley took a long time cooling down.
Afterward, she asked Harley why he had doubted her instead of trusting her.
That was when Harley showed her his chat history with Clement.
Clement had sent him a picture of Sue sprawling by his bedside.
Sue remembered going to the hospital after a long day at work. Clement was still asleep. She was so exhausted, she ended up falling asleep at his bedside.
The photo itself seemed innocent, but it was accompanied by a questionable text Clement sent.
[Harley, thanks for letting Sue come take care of me.]
“I called you that day.” Harley pinched the top of his nose bridge. “On the way back, someone rear–ended my car. I called you, but you never picked up. After that, I saw the photos Clement sent.”
Because of his incident, Sue questioned Clement, asking him why he had sent such questionable photos.
At that time, Clement seemed very innocent.
He explained, “I just wanted to thank Harley, nothing else. He’s the one misunderstanding things. He doesn’t trust you…”
After that, Sue and Harley’s relationship was never restored to when they first got married.
Sue collected her thoughts and rubbed her temple.
“It’s been so long ago, and Tina’s all grown up now. Why would I divorce Harley now?”
Sue’s words made Clement’s eyes darken. He pursed his lips.
“Sue, do you still blame me for what happened?”
Sue would always comfort and reassure Clement whenever he asked something like this in an indignant tone.
This time, however, she couldn’t help but feel annoyed. “I’m not blaming you. We’re not getting a divorce, and it has nothing to do with you.”
With that, Sue pushed the door open and stepped out of the car. She subconsciously looked up at her apartment window, but realized it was all dark.
That was when she remembered that Harley had gone on a business trip.
“Stay safe on the road.”
Sue shut the car door and turned to walk into the elevator.
When she reached home, she switched the lights on in the living room and looked around, feeling like something was missing.
Yet, she couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was.
When she walked into the bedroom and saw the divorce papers resting on her dressing table, she finally realized what was going on.
She flipped through the papers and saw Harley’s signature on it.
Sue couldn’t understand what was going on. She stared at the papers, unable to believe that Harley wanted to
divorce her.
How could this be?!
