He Never Knew I Was Carrying His Child Chapter 06

He Never Knew I Was Carrying His Child Chapter 06

I answered calmly.

“Would it have changed anything if I told you?”

Silence. Damian knew exactly where those words had come from. He’d used them on me countless times.

His voice softened. Almost apologetic.

“The day after tomorrow, some friends are getting together. They’re all bringing their partners. I remember you always wanted to meet them.”

“No.” I didn’t even hesitate.

Months ago, I’d wanted so badly to be part of his world.

Damian always said he valued his privacy, that he needed space.

Now that I was gone, he was suddenly opening the door.

He paused. “You’ve been spending all your time with Ava. I’m your boyfriend. If you want to go shopping, watch a movie, or take a weekend trip, I’ll go with you.”

I almost laughed. I’d spent years asking him to do those exact things with me.

There was always another meeting. Another trip. Another excuse.

Eventually, the restaurants closed, the shows ended. The places I’d wanted to visit disappeared from my list.

I stopped asking. There was no point reopening old wounds.

So I told him the truth. “I’ve relocated. I’m not coming back.

The silence on the other end lasted several seconds.

“You… what? When? Elena, why didn’t you tell me?”

“I forgot.”

He let out a frustrated breath. “When did you become like this?”

His voice grew tighter. “You used to text me all day. You’d send me pictures. You’d tell me every little thing that happened. And now? You disappeared. You blocked me. You left New York. And somehow, I’m the last person to find out.”

His voice cracked.

“I’m your boyfriend. Don’t you think this is cruel?”

I smiled faintly. “You were the one who wanted me to stop depending on you. You said I needed to grow up. You said I didn’t need to involve you in every little decision. So I stopped.”

“I started making my own choices. I stopped asking for your opinion. I stopped interrupting your life. Isn’t that exactly what you wanted? So why are you upset now?”

For the first time, Damian had no answer.

Only the sound of his breathing filled the silence.

Finally, he said quietly, “That’s not what I meant.”

“It doesn’t matter. I’ve settled into my new life. I’m not coming back.”

“As for your dinner, take Clara. You already spend more time with my sister than you ever did with me.”

“Oh, one more thing. I forgot to tell you.”

I took a slow breath.

“We’re over, Damian.”

Then I ended the call.

He called again and again. I ignored every one.

Then the messages started pouring in.

We’re not breaking up.

You’re just upset.

We’ll talk when you calm down.

Come home.

I was about to silence the conversation when another notification appeared.

I stared at the screen, waiting for him to realize he’d sent it to the wrong person.

One minute. Two. Nothing.

Instead, another message popped up.

I figured you could use this more than I could.

Attached was a digital coffee gift card.

I couldn’t help smiling.

Earlier that day, he’d joked that the only thing I’d never accidentally sent him was my paycheck.

Now, apparently he’d decided to send me something instead.
