I Saw My Alpha Mate’s Betrayal, So I Changed Fate Chapter 03
I collapse onto my bed and close my eyes, exhausted in both body and mind.
Throughout the rest of the day, several people come to see me.
Nolan apologizes and tells me not to overthink things, insisting that he only treats Abigail like a younger sister and wants to take care of her.
Sophie sends me a flood of messages, saying I must be suffering from pre-wedding anxiety and asking me to go out for a movie and clear my head.
But I know exactly what they’re doing.
They’re only trying to keep me calm.
They’re afraid I’ll discover the truth. They’re afraid I’ll make a scene and ruin Abigail’s Bonding Ceremony.
And I no longer have the energy to care.
When it’s time to report the reception plan for the Alpha King, I go to the pack elder to present it, only to be publicly reprimanded.
“Harper, you’re not the Luna yet. Don’t get so carried away!”
I freeze.
“Just because the Alpha has chosen you to be his Luna doesn’t mean you can look down on everyone!”
“You’re not the Luna yet. Don’t let your future position go to your head and start thinking the whole pack should revolve around you!”
“If I hadn’t caught the problem in time, could you afford to take responsibility for the consequences?”
But every single word in that reception plan is something I’ve personally worked on for three months.
How could this possibly be my fault?
I immediately pull up the problematic proposal and trace the submission history.
In the end, I discover that the person who submitted it is Abigail.
Back then, my parents insisted on putting her in the pack’s administration alongside me so they could “take care of her.”
She isn’t capable enough, and she gets passed over for promotion time and time again.
But this time, by stealing my proposal, she somehow earns the elders’ approval.
“Sophie, thank you!”
In the living room of the Beta House, Abigail is hugging Sophie and acting coy, her face glowing with delight.
I take the original proposal and walk downstairs, then slam the file down in front of them.
Sophie immediately goes pale.
“Explain.”
I stare into her eyes, every breath feeling like it’s being cut by a knife.
“Other than Nolan, you’re the only person who’s used my computer.”
“And you were the one who said you had an emergency last time, so I gave you my password.”
“You… What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
Sophie forces herself to stay calm, lifting her chin defiantly.
“Harper, you take everything way too seriously.”
“It’s just one little proposal. Why can’t you be generous and let your sister have it?”
I can hardly believe what I’m hearing.
“Sophie, you’re my best friend…”
“Your friend is right.”
I don’t even notice when Marcus appears. He cuts me off immediately.
“Abigail was only trying to help the pack. Consider the proposal something you gave her. Let it go and don’t bring it up again.”
They stand in front of Abigail, shielding her from me.
One is my own brother. The other is my best friend, someone I once considered family.
Yet now, every one of them is protecting her and betraying me.
I let out a bitter laugh and turn my face away, only to notice the bracelet on Abigail’s wrist, covered in diamonds and sapphires.
It’s the “dowry” Mom prepared for me.
When she bought it, she even told me she didn’t have enough money on hand and asked me to transfer two hundred thousand dollars to her account first, promising to pay me back after the wedding.
But now, that bracelet is already on Abigail’s wrist.
“It wouldn’t be safe with you, so I asked your sister to keep it for you,” Dad and Mom say matter-of-factly.
“It’s only two hundred thousand dollars. We spent far more than that raising you.”
“The bracelet can stay with your sister for now. We’ll talk about the money later. What’s the rush?”
Their voices are loud, yet not one of them dares to meet my eyes.
I quietly look at this entire family, along with the friend I once trusted more than anyone, and finally let go of every last bit of hope.
“Fine.” I smile faintly. “The proposal, the sapphire bracelet, the money… If you want them, take them all.”
“From now on, I’m not your daughter anymore.”
Another commotion erupts behind me.
Questions, insults, accusations…
But my ears are ringing, and I don’t hear a single word.
I simply return to my room, pick up my phone, and call Alpha King’s Beta, Nick, again.
“Beta Nick, this is Harper Delaney, Beta of the Darkstone Pack. I called before to request a conversation with the Alpha King…”
“I remember you. But the Alpha King is busy. He declined your request. He says there’s nothing he can do for you.”
“But…”
Before I can finish, the call ends.
He was supposed to help me.
I keep the phone pressed to my ear as the monotonous beeping continues, tears silently slipping down my cheeks.
Once I’ve finally calmed myself, I go downstairs to pour myself a glass of milk from the refrigerator.
But the moment I turn the corner of the hallway, I see Nolan.
He’s holding Abigail against the wall, their bodies pressed together as they kiss passionately, neither of them willing to let go.
