I Saw My Alpha Mate’s Betrayal, So I Changed Fate Chapter 02
Early the next morning, Sophie comes to my house.
She’s a wedding planner, and she’s handling everything for my Bonding Ceremony, from the venue to the entire ceremony schedule.
With only two days left until the ceremony, the venue has already been fully decorated.
Yet now, she sits on my family’s couch, excitedly suggesting that we replace all the flowers.
“The roses and peonies we picked before are too predictable. What about purple hydrangeas? They’ll look more dreamy and elegant!”
She hands me a mock-up of her new design.
But the moment I see those purple hydrangeas, the first thing that comes to mind is the few pots of flowers on Abigail’s bedroom windowsill.
They’re her favorite flowers.
“Besides the flowers, I added a few dishes to the reception menu.”
Mom walks out of the kitchen.
“Avocado salad, seafood risotto, lobster pasta…”
I don’t eat avocados, and I’m allergic to seafood.
All of these are Abigail’s favorites too.
They eagerly discuss the changes for a long while, only remembering at the very end to ask the bride what she thinks.
“Harper, what do you think?”
I don’t answer. I just look at them and let out a soft laugh.
“So, are you planning my Bonding Ceremony or Abigail’s?”
The living room instantly falls silent.
“Don’t be ridiculous!”
Marcus is the first to speak, but he doesn’t look at me. His eyes nervously drift to the side.
“Harper, I’m sorry.” Abigail’s eyes turn red. “Mom and Dad just feel sorry for me. They only want to take better care of me.”
“I know I’m useless. I’m always a burden to everyone…”
She speaks faster and faster, her breathing becoming increasingly ragged. Soon, she collapses weakly to the floor.
The entire house erupts into chaos.
Nolan is the first to rush over. He scoops her into his arms, giving her water and searching for her medication.
Marcus, however, turns around and points at me, furious.
“You know she’s still struggling with depression. How could you deliberately push her like that?”
“Get out!” Dad roars. “I won’t have someone this cruel under my roof!”
“Harper, how could you? Your sister didn’t even mean anything by it…”
The one muttering under her breath is Sophie.
I look at them, and all I can feel is how ridiculous this is.
I’ve accepted my parents and brother favoring Abigail for more than twenty years.
I was deceived by Nolan and blamed myself for failing to see the kind of person he really is. I accepted that too.
But Sophie?
When her stepfather used to beat her, I was the one who stood in front of her and took the hits.
When she was ambushed by a rogue and lost too much blood, I was the one who donated blood to her without hesitation, almost passing out myself.
She once held my hand and promised that even if the whole world betrayed me, she would always stand behind me.
But now, including her, every single one of them is standing against me.
Suddenly, I feel exhausted.
“Fine.” I speak calmly. “Do whatever you want with the Bonding Ceremony. It has nothing to do with me anymore.”
I turn and walk away.
A flicker of guilt crosses Nolan’s eyes, and he immediately follows me toward the stairs.
“Harper, that’s not what I meant.”
I curl my lips into a faint smile.
“No? Then keep the ceremony exactly as planned.”
“No!”
The answer escapes him instantly, his brows drawing together.
“Sophie’s idea is actually good. Besides, the Alpha King is visiting our pack and will be attending our ceremony. Changing the flowers is a small thing. We need to make sure everything is worthy of welcoming our King.”
I give him a faint smile and slowly loosen my clenched hand.
“Then do whatever you want.”
“Harper!”
When he sees that I remain completely unmoved, Nolan’s expression grows darker.
“Can you stop being so damn passive-aggressive?”
“Abigail has depression, yet she’s still more emotionally stable and obedient than you!”
After saying that coldly, he turns around and walks away.
I stand there without expression, take out my camera, point it at everyone in the living room, and press the shutter again.
Three days later.
It is the second day after the wedding.
In the photo, Nolan is holding Abigail’s hand as he looks through the wedding photos with my parents. The whole family is laughing and enjoying themselves.
Sophie, the woman who once promised to be my photographer herself, is now sitting in front of a computer, carefully editing the video of Abigail’s ceremony.
Everything is perfect, like a picture-perfect family portrait.
And in that picture, there isn’t even a trace of me.
Good.
My phone vibrates.
I lower my eyes and look at the screen.
