I Saw My Alpha Mate’s Betrayal, So I Changed Fate Chapter 01
My camera can show me what will happen three days from now.
When I photograph my parents, three days later, they are attending my Bonding Ceremony, their hands clasped together, their faces glowing with pride and happiness.
When I photograph my twin brother, Marcus, three days later, he is bending down with a smile as he helps arrange the train of my wedding dress.
When I photograph my best friend, Sophie, three days later, she is wearing a bridesmaid dress, holding up her phone to record my ceremony, tears welling in her eyes.
Everyone’s face is filled with happiness. Everything looks perfect, flawless.
My heart is full of sweetness as I look forward to the ceremony three days from now, then turn my camera toward my mate, Alpha Nolan.
But the moment I press the shutter, my breath catches.
In the photo, Nolan, three days from now, is slipping a ring onto someone’s hand.
And it isn’t mine.
I know that scar all too well.
It belongs to my adopted sister, Abigail.
The photos develop one after another.
No matter how many times I zoom in, the scar remains clearly visible on the knuckle of that hand.
In the entire pack, Abigail is the only one with a scar like that.
I can barely breathe. Clutching my camera, I make my way to her bedroom.
The door is half open. Abigail is sitting in front of her vanity, with only half of her profile visible.
I raise my camera and press the shutter.
The next second, a photo of her passionately kissing Nolan on their wedding bed fills my eyes.
“How is this possible…?”
Something inside my head snaps. I stare at the image on my camera, barely remembering to breathe.
“Abigail, you’re still awake?”
A familiar voice comes from the stairway.
It’s my twin brother, Marcus.
I take a deep breath and turn away, hiding in the shadows around the corner of the hallway as I hold my breath and continue listening.
“Marcus, I’m a little nervous.” Abigail’s soft voice comes from the room. “Are you sure this is really okay? What if Harper gets angry?”
“Of course not.” Marcus sounds completely certain. “She’ll give you anything.”
My tears fall instantly. I bite down hard on my lower lip.
He’s right.
Ever since Nolan and my parents brought her back from the Northern Pack and told me she was my sister, I’ve given her almost everything I have.
Abigail is timid, so I have to give her the largest, brightest room in the house.
Abigail is unhappy, so I have to give up my spot at a prestigious werewolf academy and let her attend first.
Cakes, gifts, holiday money…
I think I’ve given up enough.
But now, does she want my mate too?
“This is what you wanted. Of course we’re going to make it happen.”
Marcus’s voice grows gentler.
“With Mom and Dad backing you, she won’t dare make a scene.”
“Three days from now, when Nolan’s car comes to pick you up, I’ll have a bridesmaid dress ready for her.”
“If she behaves, she can attend your ceremony and watch you become the Luna.”
“If she refuses, we’ll lock her in her room. She won’t get anywhere near you and Nolan.”
“Marcus, you’re the best!”
Abigail throws herself into his arms in delight.
And I stand in the darkness, suddenly feeling like the biggest joke in the world.
This is what she wants, so they’re going to make it happen.
But what about me?
The man who keeps telling me I’m his one and only, who promises to give me the grandest Bonding Ceremony of all, what does he really think I am?
I return to my room in a daze, and soon, I receive a call from Nolan.
“Harper, you got the gift I sent tonight, right?”
His voice over the phone sounds slightly cautious.
But all I hear is the irony in it.
No wonder he suddenly had a diamond necklace delivered to me tonight.
Is he trying to make it up to me?
Or is he just enjoying playing with the fool I’ve become?
Because just moments ago, I saw it in a social media post.
That necklace was nothing more than a free gift that came with the pile of jewelry Abigail bought today.
“Nolan, why are you giving me a gift three days before the ceremony?”
I force myself to sound casual.
“What did you do? Feeling guilty?”
“How could I?” He lets out a soft laugh on the other end. “Don’t overthink it.”
I quietly wipe the tears from my face.
“Fine. But Nolan, I only get one Bonding Ceremony in my life.”
“If I’m not happy with the ceremony three days from now, I’m not marrying you.”
The breathing on the other end seems to stop for a moment.
But soon, Nolan speaks with absolute certainty.
“That’s impossible.”
He doesn’t mean it’s impossible for me to be unhappy.
He means it’s impossible for me to leave him.
“Harper, just listen to me.” Nolan’s voice turns serious. “The Bonding Ceremony is just a formality. Don’t put so much weight on it.”
“All you need to know is that I love you.”
“I already promised you. You may not be my fated mate, but you’ll always be my Luna.”
It’s that line again.
Nolan and I grow up together.
When we both awaken our wolves at sixteen, we’re convinced that we’re each other’s fated mates.
But when I rush into the pack house to find him, full of excitement and hope, I get the exact opposite answer.
We’re not each other’s fated mates.
Later, we travel to countless packs, trying to find our true mates, but we never find them.
So Nolan holds me in his arms and promises that even if we eventually meet our fated mates, I’ll always be his Luna.
Back then, he personally leaves his mark on my neck.
But later, he brings Abigail home and tells me that she’s his mate.
Without her, he and his wolf won’t survive.
So I have no choice but to agree to let her stay and become my adopted sister.
I think he’ll keep loving me, just as he promised.
But now, the photo of Nolan kissing Abigail flashes through my mind again.
The heart pounding wildly in my chest finally begins to grow cold.
But I don’t cry. I don’t make a scene.
I simply hang up Nolan’s call, then turn around and dial another number.
If I want to erase the mate mark on my neck, I need someone to help me.
And I know exactly who can.
