Resign with Grace, Return with Fire Chapter 11

Resign with Grace, Return with Fire Chapter 11

Sandra’s expression changed drastically. She snapped her head toward Lester, her gaze turning razor-sharp.

Lester took a frightened step back.

“M-Ms. Wendell, there must be some kind of misunderstanding,” he stammered.

Then, he suddenly pointed at me. “These projects were all handed over from Fred. He shares the responsibility,

too.

“Fred, don’t think you can dump this mess on me just because you resigned!”

To prove his innocence, he immediately slipped back into his role as a victim. His voice trembled as he said, Ms. Wendell, I just took over Fred’s projects. He must have set me up. Don’t you trust me anymore?”

When Sandra saw how pitiful he looked, the doubt in her eyes softened almost instantly.

She frowned at me briefly, then said gently to Lester, “Alright. Let’s return to the office and deal with this first. Of course I trust you. If this really was Fred’s doing, I’ll make sure he takes responsibility.”

Before leaving, Sandra gave me a long, heavy look, then turned and walked away.

As Lester passed by, he curled his lips into a smug smile and softly provoked me. “Fred, did you see that? No matter what happens, Sandra will always believe me.”

I ignored him and walked straight into the elevator.

That afternoon, I heard from former colleagues about what was happening at Wendell Group. When I was in charge, the clients trusted me and rarely raised objections.

But this time, with Lester handling it, problems cropped up everywhere, causing severe losses.

The client demanded accountability. After learning that Wendell Group had replaced the person in charge without their consent, they were furious and prepared to sue. Sandra was completely overwhelmed.

“Ms. Wendell, I really didn’t know such a trivial issue could lead to consequences this significant. I’m really sorry. What should we do now? How about I apologize to the client myself? Ms. Wendell, please don’t ignore me. You’re breaking my heart.”

This conversation was secretly recorded by a former colleague outside Sandra’s office.

When she discovered that Lester was indeed the culprit and that his errors were nothing but rookie mistakes, she exploded with rage.

For the first time, she slammed the rejected proposal files straight into Lester’s face in front of everyone.

He immediately started playing the same old routine, pretending to be a victim. But this time, Sandra showed no pity. She turned and went back into her office.

Lester chased after her, apologizing frantically, but she wasn’t buying it at all.

Back when I caught his mistakes and fixed them before they caused any harm, Sandra always brushed them off as minor and told me to be more tolerant.

Now that real money was on the line, she was no longer forgiving. All she felt was anger that Lester couldn’t even handle something so simple.

“Lester, when Fred said your work attitude was a problem, I even defended you. I never imagined you’d be this stupid. Get out!”

Lester had never been scolded like that before. His pride shattered, and he stormed out.

The recording ended there.

Maybe this was karma.

I thought that would be the end of things between Sandra and me. It turned out that I was being naive.

One evening, after work, I went home as usual. The moment I opened the door, I froze.

“Sandra, why are you here?”

She was sitting on the couch inside my apartment. When she saw me, she quickly stood and walked toward me.

“Fred, welcome back.”

That was the first time she had spoken to me in such a polite tone. For a moment, I almost failed to recognize the woman standing in front of me.
