I Asked for a Baby Six Years and He Gave Her Two Instead Chapter 04

I Asked for a Baby Six Years and He Gave Her Two Instead Chapter 04

I sat quietly on the sofa, biting my tongue to stay calm.

The moment the call ended, my phone buzzed to life in my pocket.

【Honey, tomorrow’s New Year’s Eve. I can’t spend the holiday with you this year—take good care of yourself at the lab.】

【Please look after my mom too.】

【I’ll definitely come see you when I have time!】

【You’ve worked so hard, honey.】

Staring at these self-deceptive messages,

I suddenly felt my heart didn’t ache as much anymore—only a bone-chilling cold remained.

I didn’t reply. Instead, I took out my phone and called the lab.

“I need a full check on the household registry and assets. Then send a lawyer. I believe my husband is having an affair.”

Dinner was ready.

Mr. Bennett opened a bottle of wine.

“Zoe, do you drink?”

I smiled and nodded.

“Ethan’s such a caring son. A while back, I threw out my back, and he carried me everywhere.”

“And now his mother’s fallen ill again. Ethan couldn’t bear to see Chloe tire herself, so he’s been at the hospital caring for her himself.”

He praised Ethan as if staking a claim. “You city kids, born lucky, you don’t know our hardships.”

“If we hadn’t met such a good son-in-law as Ethan, our family would be in terrible shape.”

“I’d say Chloe’s just lucky!”

I took a sip of wine, staring at my glass,

and forced a smile.

Your family’s luck came at my expense.

I nodded, my voice calm.

“Then you really should treat this son-in-law well.”

My cold tone made Mr. Bennett pause.

A message came through from the lab:

【Two children—one son, one daughter—are listed under your family registry.】

Seeing those words, I glanced up at Chloe and Mr. Bennett,

smiled, and said nothing.

Ethan was bold enough to put his illegitimate children under my name.

【No need to remove them. I’ll handle it. This is evidence of adultery.】

【Received. Sending a lawyer immediately.】

I put away my phone and finished dinner without changing my expression,

watching them with a faint smile as they played with the children in the living room.

Chloe suddenly said,

“Your job is tough, but you shouldn’t put off marriage and kids. Once a woman gets older, not only is it harder to find a partner, but childbirth also becomes more dangerous.”

“I know you and your brother are both driven. But since he’s had me and the kids, he’s settled right down. Rushes home after work now. You should find someone who’ll take care of you, too.”

I glanced at the expensive baby formula can nearby and said calmly,

“It’s okay. I’ve already put it off for so many years anyway.”

Just then, the door opened from the outside.

Ethan was wearing the British handcrafted shirt I’d bought him,

but his hands were full of gifts for Chloe.

“Honey! I missed you so much!”

He jiggled the bags, tapping his cheek. “Look what I got you! Everything from your ‘save for later’ list! A kiss, and it’s all yours.”

Chloe blushed and gently punched his arm.

“Stop fooling around. Zoe’s here.”

He craned his neck suspiciously.

I slowly stood up from the sofa and met his eyes.

“Brother, aren’t you going to reintroduce me to your wife?”
