They Called Me the Family Outcast, I Sent Them to Trial Chapter 06
The crowd closed in on Viola again.
“Yes, call the Chairman! Hurry!
“The list just got sealed. Maybe your father can still change it!”
Viola gripped her phone, her face turning pale.
“Daddy’s in charge of the evacuation. He doesn’t have time to deal with something like this.”
“You think our lives don’t matter?”
“Didn’t you say the Chairman adores you? Prove it! Now!”
Cornered, she had no choice but to raise the phone to her ear.
“Daddy, it’s me. There’s a little problem with the evacuation list…”
She paused for a few seconds, pretending to listen.
“Okay. We’ll wait for you to handle it.”
I snatched the phone from her hand and checked the screen.
The call log was blank.
“You never even called him.”
Every face in the room changed.
Someone who had defended her moments ago grabbed her wrist.
“The list is sealed, and you’re still putting on a show?”
Viola grabbed for the phone. “The phone’s broken, that’s all!”
“Then use mine.”
Security had already found Tony’s number.
When he answered, I said, “Your daughter says you’re the Chairman of the Commission. Everyone here is waiting for you to reopen the evacuation list.”
Tony was silent for a moment, then agreed to come over right away.
He didn’t know that Don Bellini and Security were waiting for him, or that the chamber’s cameras were already recording everything.
A little over twenty minutes later, a Commission car pulled up outside.
It belonged to the archives department, not the Chairman.
But no one in the chamber knew the difference.
Tony wore a neatly pressed suit with a Commission employee badge pinned to his chest. At first glance, he really did look important.
Viola rushed over, hugged him, and whispered a few words in his ear.
Tony’s face went pale for an instant. Then he squared his shoulders and walked in.
He didn’t dare admit that he was just a clerk, let alone that his daughter had used his position to fool everyone.
“I’ll take care of the list.
“I’ve worked at the Commission for years. Adding a few names is no big deal.”
The room filled with relief, and everyone immediately started praising Viola and her father again.
“I knew Viola would never lie to us!”
“One word from the Chairman and he can even change the names on a sealed list!”
I looked at the badge on Tony’s chest and couldn’t help laughing.
Matteo strode toward me at once.
“What’s so funny? The Chairman just promised to save us.”
His swagger was back, as if he hadn’t been panicking about being left behind just minutes earlier.
I pointed at Tony. “You really think he’s the Chairman?”
