They Called Me the Family Outcast, I Sent Them to Trial Chapter 05
The chamber went dead silent
A few seconds passed before someone stammered, “Only her? Aren’t we on the priority list?”
Don Bellini pulled up the system records and projected the sealed list onto the wall.
They searched through every page. Not one of them found their name.
“That’s impossible!”
“Viola said she had everything arranged!”
Someone called the church immediately.
The voice on the other end gave a single answer. “The list is sealed. No additions.”
The people who had been celebrating minutes ago started to panic.
“Then what do we do?”
“The FBI knows about the old base! Without the Family’s protection, they’ll come for us in no time!”
Every head turned to Viola at once.
“Didn’t you say your father added us to the list?”
“Then open the list! Now!”
Viola took a step back, her eyes filling with tears right on cue.
“I don’t know what happened. Daddy promised me…”
Suddenly, she pointed at me.
“It has to be Elena!”
“She knew how important registration was, but she only cared about saving herself. She wants us all to get arrested!”
Matteo immediately stepped in front of her.
“You knew this would happen. Why didn’t you register all of us?”
He didn’t even glance at me as he said it.
As if he hadn’t logged into my account and tried to cancel my registration.
In an instant, they turned their anger on me.
“She’s got a pass. Of course she doesn’t care about us!”
“Take it from her!”
Someone lunged at me.
I sidestepped. Don Bellini’s guards grabbed him and slammed him onto a table.
A gunshot cracked overhead.
“Evacuation passes can’t be transferred. Anyone who tries to take hers will be treated as attacking an evacuee!”
The crowd finally stopped, but they kept glaring at me.
I took out my phone and projected everything I’d saved onto the wall.
I had warned them once.
The Commission had warned them three times.
Matteo had canceled his appointment. They had laughed at every warning. Viola had told them they didn’t need to register. The proof was all there.
“It’s not that you didn’t know the rules.
“You simply believed Viola could help you get around them.
“Now that it’s blown up in your faces, don’t expect me to take the blame.”
They opened their mouths, but no one could think of anything to say.
I turned to Viola.
“Since your father is the Chairman, call him now.
“Have him reopen the list in front of everyone.”
