My Mother and Husband Both Chose Her Over Me Chapter 13

My Mother and Husband Both Chose Her Over Me Chapter 13

Less than a month later, a video from ten years earlier appeared online.

#TheTruthAbout Serena Vale#

The post came from an account called Noelle. Within hours, the footage ignited a nationwide debate.

[How could teenagers do something this cruel?]

[I cried watching this.]

[Her own family chose the abuser. That’s almost worse.]

Thousands of comments accumulated beneath the post.

People replayed the old footage, identified each act of cruelty, and questioned how the adults around us had

allowed it to remain hidden.

Adrian’s phone rang urgently.

“What am I supposed to do?” Serena cried.

“Everyone is attacking me. I can’t even leave home.”

He did not answer. He stared at the account name, grabbed his coat, and drove straight to the hospital.

Dr. Bennett received him with a cold expression. “Yes, Noelle is alive.”

“The notification you signed was staged. It was not a legal death certificate.

“It formed part of a protective-discharge and rehabilitation plan.”

Adrian stood frozen. “What?”

“You were all central triggers for her illness. Letting you believe she was dead gave her a clean break and a

safe chance to recover.”

“Can I see her?”

Dr. Bennett hesitated.

Adrian sank to the floor. “Please.

“I miss her. I need to apologize to her face.”

Only then did Dr. Bennett notice how much weight he had lost. The confidence he once carried had

disappeared.

After a pause, she made a call. “Are you willing to see him?

“All right.”

She ended the call and handed him an address. “She agreed.”

When Adrian arrived at my café, his clothes were rumpled and he looked worn down by the trip.

I sat across from him, calm and composed, with none of the panic he had once expected from me. Nothing about me revealed the woman I had been before. My hands were steady, my breathing was even, and I no longer searched his expression for safety or permission.

After leaving them, I had studied painting and floral design, tried work that interested me, and eventually opened my own shop.

I met new people and learned that I could face the past without surrendering to it.

They had hurt me, forgiven one another on my behalf, and gone on living comfortably while I was expected

to heal alone.

I refused to accept that.

Ten years had passed, but I still wanted the world to know exactly what Serena and my family had done.
