Jealousy exploded inside him like a bomb going off.

After that, every single thing Olivia did felt like a personal attack.

Every small reminder. Every casual comment.

The more he loved her, the more it hurt. The more it hurt, the more he hated her.

And Quinn? She kept pouring gasoline on the fire.

Kept sending him stories about Olivia and Aaron’s past. Whispering in his ear:

“Don’t you think it’s unfair?”

“You loved her for years. She only settled for you because her first choice didn’t work out.”

“If I were you? I’d make her pay.”

Next message-a half-naked photo of herself.

Derek went. Did the unthinkable.

On his way home, he even stopped to buy Olivia’s favorite cake. Remembered what her therapist said about sugar helping with mood.

Watched her smile while eating it.

Felt nothing.

Actually-felt angry.

Why should she be happy when he was drowning in pain?

Why didn’t she know what she’d put him through?

So on their wedding day at city hall-

He told her everything. Destroyed her on purpose.

The car screeched to a stop as the memory hit him.

No time for regret. He bolted out, scooped Olivia up, sprinted for the ER.

Telling her the truth was the worst mistake of his life.

If he’d known revenge meant losing her-he would’ve suffered in silence forever.

His chest felt like it was caving in.

They wheeled her into surgery.

Derek dropped to his knees. Started praying like he’d never prayed before.

Please. Let her live. Please.

Footsteps approached-Olivia’s therapist, passing by.

Saw him. Knew immediately something was very wrong.

“Derek. What happened?”

His voice came out broken:

“Olivia tried to kill herself.”

The therapist’s face went pale. She shoved past him, rushed into the OR.

“How is she?”

The surgeon didn’t look up:

“Physically? She’ll survive. But she’s not fighting. Her will to live is almost gone. If she gives up…”

The therapist’s jaw tightened.

She leaned down close to Olivia’s ear:

“Olivia. Remember when you asked me how to truly heal from mental illness? You didn’t want to burden Derek anymore. I didn’t tell you then.”

Her voice dropped lower:

“I’m telling you now.”

“The answer is-you stop depending on anyone else to save you. You become your own savior.”

“I don’t know what happened. But dying isn’t salvation. It’s just another way to run away.”

“So live. Whoever hurt you-hit back. And if you lose? Get back up and fight again.”

“Living means there’s always hope.”

“Be your own savior. Be your own light.”

The heart monitor suddenly spiked.

Like someone who’d let go was grabbing onto life again.

On the operating table, Olivia’s eyelashes fluttered.

A response.
