A Ghost Stands Between Me And The Mafia Boss I Love Chapter 05

“Celeste.”

“Don’t scare me.”

Lorenzo reached out again.

I smacked his hand away.

The doctor walked in with the test results, looking serious.

“Mr. Vitale, there’s no obvious structural damage to her brain. But before the accident, she clearly suffered an extreme psychological shock.”

“Based on her current presentation, this looks more like dissociative amnesia triggered by

post-traumatic stress.”

Lorenzo’s face went pale. “What does that mean?”

The doctor paused for a moment.

“Simply put, her brain is actively cutting off all memories tied to overwhelming pain. That includes you, and possibly the relationships and family life she used to know.”

After the doctor left, the hospital room fell quiet.

Lorenzo made his way to the bed, eyes bloodshot and glistening. He kept his voice very soft.

“Celeste, you’re angry with me, aren’t you? It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have left you home alone. You can punish me however you want. Just don’t scare me like this.”

He tried to touch my face.

I immediately shrank back and grabbed the water cup from the bedside table, holding it up defensively.

“Stay away from me. I don’t know you.”

His hand stopped midair, his fingers visibly trembling.

He stared into my eyes and finally realized I wasn’t pretending. I really had forgotten him.

Just then, the hospital room door swung open.

Bianca walked in carrying flowers and fruit. Her eyes were red.

“Lorenzo, I heard something happened to Celeste.”

She walked closer to the bed. “How are you feeling?”

I looked at this completely unfamiliar young woman. “Who is she?”

Bianca froze. “Celeste, it’s me. Bianca. You don’t remember me?”

I shook my head. “Sorry.”

She turned to Lorenzo, clearly trying to tell whether I was faking it.

But Lorenzo’s expression only grew darker.

“Get out.”

Bianca bit her lip. “I can stay and help you take care of-”

“Out.”

His voice turned ice-cold.

Bianca flinched.

That was the first time I had seen Lorenzo truly angry since waking up.

She walked out with her fists clenched and hatred burning in her eyes.

The room was once again just me and that stranger.

Lorenzo pulled up a chair and sat far enough away from me.

“Fine.”

“Let’s start over.’

He looked at me, his eyes full of barely suppressed pain.

“My name is Lorenzo Vitale. I’m the Don of the Vitale family. And I’m your husband.”

I hugged my knees and looked at him.

“Husband?” I shook my head. “Impossible.”

His breath caught. “Why?”

“Because a real husband wouldn’t be afraid to look his wife in the eye.”

Lorenzo’s head snapped up like she’d slapped him.

Even without my memories, I could still read a person’s eyes.

When this man who claimed to be my husband looked at me, I saw guilt, weariness, and fear. The only thing I couldn’t find was love.

I closed my eyes.

“I’m tired. Please leave.”
