Left the Pack, Fated Mate Regrets Chapter 05
(Lucien’s POV)
How could it be her?
I felt my heartbeat skip a chaotic beat in that instant.
The lingering sensation of lifting the veil still remained in my palm.
The bride before me had collapsed onto the floor, tilting up a pure, beautiful face. It was Selina.
“Lucien, I came in my sister’s place willingly… She said she hates you, and she never wants to see you again…”
What did she say?
My wolf slammed violently against my chest, a pain so severe I could barely stand.
“Where is she?” I stared at Selina, my voice trembling involuntarily.
Selina’s lips twitched. Her gaze darted away for a fraction of a second before she whispered, “She… she left early this morning… for the Frostlands. She said she had finally come to her senses and didn’t want me to suffer anymore.”
“Come to her senses?” Doubt gnawed at my mind.
Knowing Sylvia’s temper, she would absolutely never take Selina’s place in the Frostlands.
“Yes, she said she never wants to see you again…”
It felt as though all the blood in my veins had frozen solid.
How could Sylvia not want to see me? How could she have gone to the Frostlands?
Selina nodded, but her eyes refused to meet mine. Instead, they were locked onto a small patch of floor by my feet.
“She said she hates you.”
Hates me.
Those two words were like a silver dagger, piercing precisely into the softest part of my heart.
Sylvia said she hates me?
No.
Impossible.
Sylvia would always tolerate me. She would always be there when I needed her most.
I shot to my feet and bolted out of the hall.
My wolf was thrashing wildly inside me, accompanied by an inexplicable, gut-wrenching intuition that left me completely restless.
“Sylvia-”
I threw my head back and unleashed a long, agonizing howl, the sound echoing through the valley.
But there was no answer.
When Sylvia’s father, the Alpha, arrived, I was standing outside Sylvia’s bedroom door, my entire body trembling
I pushed the door open. The room was completely empty.
Everything was left exactly as it was when she was still here, saturated with her scent.
My heart instantly settled. Sylvia hadn’t left. Selina was definitely lying to me.
“She’s gone,” the Alpha told me calmly.
My body swayed violently, my legs suddenly losing all their strength.
My gaze fell upon the pile of ashes in the fireplace.
I walked over, crouched down, and reached into the ashes.
What my fingertips brushed against made my entire body freeze. A burnt emerald necklace-the birthday gift I had given her when we were seven years old…
I frantically tore through the ashes like a madman.
A wooden rabbit, charred and broken in half. I had given it to her for her twelfth birthday, and she had told me it was her absolute favorite.
A pair of crooked wolf-fang earrings she had carved herself when she was eighteen. Selina had sneered at them as worthless, but Sylvia had treasured them and worn them constantly.
And then there were the gifts I had given her later, the ones Selina had rejected and left behind for her.
She had kept every single one.
But now, they were all burned to ashes.
I knelt before the pile of ashes, my mind buzzing with a deafening roar.
My wolf curled into a tight ball inside me, letting out low, mournful whimpers, as if its tail had been brutally crushed.
I had thought she was just throwing a tantrum. I had thought she would be there forever. I had thought that whenever I turned around, she would still be standing in the exact same spot, waiting for me.
When exactly had I started taking her waiting for granted?
