I Sat Trapped In The Wedding Car For One Whole Hour Chapter 05
“What?” Ethan thought he’d misheard. He shook his head fiercely.
“There’s no way she canceled the wedding! She spent half a year planning every detail. No matter
how mad she was, she’d never cancel!”
He could say it all he wanted. The truth wasn’t changing.
The officiant held up his phone. “See for yourself.”
Ethan stared at it for several seconds before he could force himself to read the screen. The message
from my father was clear. [Sorry, the wedding is canceled.]
The groom standing next to him pulled up a bank transfer receipt. “Venue and officiant, together at
half price. This place doesn’t belong to you anymore.”
Ethan stood frozen. His body reacted faster than his brain. He spun around, searching for the car.
But it was already gone.
He yanked out his phone and dialed my number over and over. Every single call went to voicemail.
It was the first time I’d ever ignored his calls.
Ethan punched the wall in fury. “Hazel Murray!”
Savannah flinched at the sight of him. Her eyes went glassy in a heartbeat. “This is my fault. I
should’ve taken the dress off the second she got here. Now she’s never going to forgive me. Ethan…
what do we do?”
She looked at Ethan’s parents in horror. “Mr. and Mrs. Grant, I’m so sorry. I ruined everything
today. Please don’t blame Hazel. She’s just mad at me.”
As soon as she finished, someone in the crowd of family and friends shouted, “Richard, that fiancée of Ethan’s has no respect for your family.”
“All this over a dress. She cancels the whole wedding without a word.”
“This isn’t about giving a heads-up. She’s made fools of the entire Grant family!”
By now, Ethan stood there, completely humiliated. His parents looked just as wrecked.
Under the mocking stares of their guests, His father’s face went gray as he turned to Ethan. “You were the one who insisted on marrying Hazel. Now look at this mess. What are you going to do
about it?”
His mother looked ready to defend him, but a sudden voice cut through the tension.
“Honestly, Miss Pierce seems way more considerate than the bride. Why not just marry her
instead?”
“Yeah! She’s already got the hair, makeup, and dress. Just find a venue and do the ceremony.”
More voices piled on, nodding in agreement.
Savannah’s face flushed bright red. She glanced shyly at Ethan, who stayed silent. “Everyone, please don’t joke like that. Ethan and I are just friends. Besides, Hazel is my best friend. I could
never betray her.”
Her voice trailed off to barely a whisper. She tugged at Ethan’s sleeve. “Ethan, say something., Tel them to stop. If this gets back to Hazel, she’ll be even angrier.”
The mention of my name finally snapped Ethan out of it.
He pulled away from Savannah, acting like he hadn’t heard a word anyone said. “I’m sorry, everyone. I’ll pick a new date for the wedding. I’ll let you all know.”
He turned to leave and find me.
“You stop right there!” his father’s forehead veins bulged with rage. “Even if you bring her back, she’s done as far as I’m concerned.”
He pointed at Savannah. “I think Savannah is a fine choice. She stayed up late last night helping you set up the house. She thinks about you. She’s a much better fit for you than Hazel.”
Ethan stared blankly at Savannah’s flushed face. Without a second thought, he refused. “Dad, don’t
be ridiculous!”
He turned and left. He didn’t even glance at Savannah as the color drained from her face.
