The Last Time I Loved You Chapter 07
Chapter 7 The Price of Forgiveness
Luna dropped to her knees in front of me. She looked like an abandoned dog begging not to be left behind, her voice filled with despair. “But I don’t have another chance to be reborn anymore…”
I found it ridiculous. “What does that have to do with me?”
If I had not made that deal to take away her endless chances at rebirth, would she still be acting so full of regret?
No. She would have kept reincarnating again and again, moving from Lucien to countless other men. Because when someone was capable of betrayal once, there would always be a next time.
After I got home, I immediately summoned the system and demanded an explanation. “How is this possible?”
“Luna signed a rebirth contract through a different method.”
“What method?”
I could not understand it. I had already made a deal with the system. She should not have had another opportunity to be reborn.
“She committed suicide ninety-nine times, personally experiencing ninety-nine painful deaths in exchange for one final
chance at rebirth. In this lifetime, she has been waiting to reunite with you.”
After hearing the system’s explanation, I felt no sense of being moved. If anything, I felt irritated.
Since she already knew the terms of my deal, she should have understood the determination behind my choice.
In my previous life, I had rather given up everything to escape that world than forgive her.
After our encounter at the hospital, Luna used every connection she could find to obtain my phone number.
After blocking hundreds of calls from her, all I felt was impatience.
Who was she trying to convince with this display of regret?
I had no idea how many times I hung up before finally answering out of sheer frustration. “Luna, I don’t love you anymore. Please stop interfering with my life.”
The line fell into a panicked silence for a long moment before she began apologizing awkwardly.
“Julian, this is all my fault. I never should have hurt you again and again. I chose to terminate Lucien’s child. When something happened to you, I couldn’t even think about going on living.
“Please, forgive me one last time. I’ll do anything,” Luna pleaded desperately. “Just don’t leave me.”
“All right. I can forgive you.” I spoke calmly.
“Really?” Her voice trembled with excitement.
“As long as you give me back my heart.”
The moment I remembered that I had donated my heart to her ninety-nine times, a sharp ache spread through my chest.
The instant I finished speaking, I hung up without hesitation. I had no interest in listening to another word of her self-righteous apology.
For a while, Luna stopped bothering me, and I was relieved, thinking she had finally given up.
I was wrong.
She flew to another country and found my biological mother, whom I had been separated from for years.
The moment I saw that woman again, every hair on my body stood on end. It was exactly like my previous life.
Back then, I had been overjoyed to reunite with my family.
That happiness had not even lasted a month before she revealed her true colors and demanded that I undergo compatibility testing for a heart transplant for the son she had with her boyfriend.
“He’s your brother. What’s wrong with giving him your heart? The Sterling family is rich. They can easily get you an artificial heart, and you’ll live. Your brother shouldn’t have to suffer through the rejection risks of an artificial heart.”
She constantly accused me of climbing the social ladder and abandoning her and her son all these years.
Of course, she never said those things in front of Luna.
After accepting a large sum of money as a gift, the woman disappeared again.
Meanwhile, Luna had excitedly told me, “Julian, our families have given us the blessing. We can finally get married.”
But in this life, I refused to acknowledge that woman from the very beginning.
“You’ve mistaken me for someone else.”
I immediately called hospital security.
“Back then, I left you in a dumpster in a safe neighborhood. A kind woman found you and took you to an orphanage. I’m your mother. I saw her pick you up with my own eyes before I left!”
“So you’re admitting that you abandoned an infant?”
I hung up on security. Instead, I prepared to call the police.
