Reunion Is Difficult Chapter 05
Amande troge
She thought No one’s waiting at the altar Leigh didn’t show up for the wedding? He’d never do that”
An uneasy sense of panic began to rise inside her
She fumbled for her phone and called me but every call went straight to voicemail. Her messages went
unanswered as well
She grabbed Time by the shoulders and demanded frantically. “What do you mean, he never showed up?
Where is he
Time frowned and answered cautiously. The only thing we could find out is that he’s somewhere in Westmere. We don’t know exactly where.”
Her voice grew quieter with every word, while Amanda only became more furious.
Just then, hurried footsteps echoed down the hallway. Kevin appeared in his exquisitely tailored. extravagant best man’s suit and quickly made his way over to Amanda.
“Amanda, is Leigh still jealous over nothing? Maybe I should go talk to him.”
He put on his most understanding and considerate expression.
In the past, such moments always made Amanda feel that I was being unreasonable and that Kevin was the one who had to endure the unfair treatment.
However, at that moment, the sound of his voice only grated on her nerves.
“There’s no need.” Amanda frowned. Her voice was slightly hoarse. “Leigh has left the country.”
Kevin froze. “He’s left the country? When did that happen?”
Amanda did not have the time to answer him. Frantically, she scrolled through her contacts and began calling and messaging every one of my family and friends.
No one replied.
A sudden, inexplicable sense of panic seized her.
During the seven years we were together, I had never once truly left her.
Even when we argued and she threw me out, I would quietly wait on the front steps until she calmed down, then return with her favorite cheesecake.
Whenever she worked late, I brought dinner to her office.
Whenever she was in a bad mood, I bought her flowers and her favorite drink, then stayed up all night
talking with her.
She had grown accustomed to my love, my obedience, my patience, and the way I took care of her every need.
For the first time, Amanda felt things slipping out of her control.
Her eyes went blank as she curled in on herself.
“Why? Why would you do this, Leigh?”
She asked herself, “Is it because I went shopping with Kevin? Or because I designed a custom best man’s suit just for him?”
She thought. “But those were such minor things. We could’ve talked it out.”
Amanda suddenly felt tears sting her eyes.
She had never once imagined that I would ever leave her.
“It’s okay, Amanda. I can take care of canceling the wedding, or… I could take Leigh’s place as the groom and marry you instead. At least that would save you from being embarrassed in front of the guests.”
Kevin seized the opportunity to suggest what he had been hoping for all along, but Amanda rejected the idea without a second thought.
“No. You could never compare to Leigh. Don’t worry. I’ll win him back.”
With that, she turned and walked away.
She did not notice how Kevin’s expression had darkened or how he had clenched his fists in silence
behind her.
Half an hour later, she arrived home.
Out of habit, she called out to me. “Leigh, get me some water.”
In the past, the moment she gave me an order, I would drop whatever I was doing and attend to her immediately.
Yet, at that moment, the only response was silence throughout the house.
She glanced toward the entryway table and saw the spare key to her house, along with the plain band ring she had bought for me with little thought six months earlier.
Amanda’s expression darkened instantly.
She picked up the ring and glanced at it. Her lips curled into a bitter smile.
“You’ve got quite the temper. Fine. I’ll indulge you. I’m coming to find you.”
