My Sister Reborn Took My Groom Chapter 03

My Sister Reborn Took My Groom Chapter 03

I chatted with my dad for a while before getting up to wash some fruit.

That was when I ran into Yvonne and her mother Sadie Vance whispering to each other.

Yvonne cut her words short the moment she saw me.

Beside her, Sadie sneered. “Shirley, you always seemed so quiet and proper. Never would have guessed you had it in you to steal someone’s man. Too bad—stolen luck never lasts.”

She mocked, “Newly married and your husband can’t even be bothered to show up with you? You’ve embarrassed the entire Vance family name.”

Sadie had always eyed the Hettler family, desperately wanting Yvonne to marry in and live a life of luxury.

When things went sideways on the wedding day and her dream shattered, she took all her bitterness out on me.

I didn’t get angry. Instead, I smiled faintly.

“Come on now, Sadie. It was Yvonne who got into that limo first, remember? If we’re playing that game, maybe she’s the one who ought to be careful with her ‘stolen’ catch. Would be a shame if it slipped right through her fingers.”

Sadie froze. “Shirley, what is that supposed to mean?”

I didn’t answer, offering Yvonne a knowing smile instead.

Clearly, Sadie was still completely in the dark about the intentional vehicle swap.

Terrified of being exposed, Yvonne quickly yanked Sadie back before she could press further.

“Enough, Mom. Since Shirley wanted high society so badly, I just let her have it. Besides, how is Harrison any less? He’s upright, respectful, and has a brilliant future teaching at the university. He’s a million times better than that Hettler punk.”

Yvonne waved her hand with feigned generosity, pointing toward the tins of fish oil on the table to show off.

“Look at those. Harrison specifically asked a friend to get those. I hear all the wealthy ladies in the city are taking this imported fish oil to stay healthy. It’s incredibly expensive—cost Harrison half a month’s salary.”

I stared at the tins, recognizing the imported brand immediately. They were hundreds of dollars a can.

It seemed Harrison really did treat Yvonne well.

With Yvonne’s soothing words, Sadie’s expression finally softened.

I shrugged, wanting to avoid a scene on family day, and tried to walk past them.

But Yvonne’s next words made me freeze in my tracks.

“At the end of the day, I guess some women are just born gold diggers. Runs in the blood, doesn’t it?”

She was speaking to Sadie, but every syllable was targeted directly at me. “Some women” she meant was my late mother.

My expression turned ice-cold. I stepped toward her.

“I’ve turned a blind eye to your petty remarks, but slandering my mother crosses the line. Apologize. Right now.”

“Did I say something wrong?”

Yvonne raised an eyebrow, intentionally sticking her foot out to trip me.

I dodged her smoothly, my face grim.

Yvonne failed to catch her balance from her own momentum. She shrieked, stumbling hard onto the floor.

Seeing this, Sadie rushed at me in a fury, screaming and completely twisting the truth.

“Shirley! How dare you hit my daughter!”

“George, get out here right now! Come look at what your great daughter is doing—she’s attacking her stepmother and her sister!”

Hearing the shouting, my dad George Vance rushed out of the room, asking frantically what happened.

Harrison followed right behind him.

He strode past my dad, his gaze landing first on a softly sobbing Yvonne. His brow furrowed deeply before he whipped his head toward me, his eyes full of accusation.

“Shirley, how can you be so malicious? Just because Yvonne married me, you’re bitter and jealous enough to make her life miserable? I suggest you drop these pathetic, dirty little games. No matter what you do, I’m never going to feel anything for you.”

Listening to his grand speech, my anger evaporated into pure disbelief.

Where did he even get that kind of confidence?

I rolled my eyes, about to tear into him, when a lazy, arrogant male voice from behind cut us all off.

“Since when do you get to lecture my wife?”
