The Doctor Who Learned Love Too Late Chapter 06
Landon had his own formula running inside him.Â
Once he received the clear conclusion that we hadÂ
broken up, he should have plugged it into thatÂ
formula.Â
From then on, it should have been as if I had neverÂ
existed in his life.Â
He wouldn’t appear again. Even if we met, weÂ
would be strangers.Â
The next day, he showed up again.Â
“Why are you here again?” I found it absurd.Â
As if he couldn’t read the disgust on my face, heÂ
said seriously, “I won’t let Chloe into the houseÂ
again.”Â
“If she comes over, I’ll make her wait outside. IÂ
won’t let her in, and I won’t drive her home either.”Â
I couldn’t help laughing.Â
“Landon, you’re like a student who copied the answer but didn’t understand a single step of the solution.”Â
I was baffled.Â
Honestly, it felt surreal.Â
“You memorized the correct behavior, but youÂ
don’t know why it’s correct. So next time, you’llÂ
make the same mistake again, because once the question changes, you won’t know what to do.”Â
His brows drew together in confusion.Â
“When it comes to relationships,” I shook my head,Â
“you really are a terrible student.”Â
I remembered when we first met.Â
My friend Lily had fractured a bone and gone toÂ
the hospital. Landon was her doctor.Â
The first time I saw him, I thought he wasÂ
handsome, but cold.Â
Later, one day, I saw Landon crouched near theÂ
door to the fire escape, holding a cat treat andÂ
feeding a skinny orange cat.Â
After the cat finished eating, it immediately turnedÂ
on him and scratched his hand. A thin red lineÂ
appeared at once.Â
Landon lowered his head and looked at the backÂ
of his hand.Â
He stared at it expressionlessly for two seconds.Â
The cat seemed to know it had caused trouble. ItÂ
meowed and shrank back.Â
He sighed, then with that same cold face, pulledÂ
another treat from his pocket and held it out.Â
His movements didn’t change.Â
His tone didn’t change either, still that almostÂ
mechanical indifference.Â
Then he gently stroked the cat’s back to calm it.Â
I stood around the corner and watched for a longÂ
time.Â
After that, I started pursuing him and tried to askÂ
him out. Every time, he rejected me.Â
So I thought, forget it. He doesn’t like me.Â
After Lily was discharged, I never went back to theÂ
hospital.Â
One evening two weeks later, I had just walked outÂ
of my office building when I saw LandonÂ
downstairs.Â
I walked over quickly.Â
“Dr. Landon, why are you here?”Â
He asked, “Why haven’t you been coming to theÂ
hospital?”Â
I froze.Â
“You didn’t want to see me, so I stopped going.”Â
He frowned.Â
“Who said I didn’t want to see you?”Â
“Landon, are you joking?”Â
I truly thought he was joking, so, for some reason,Â
I blurted out, “Then agree to be my boyfriend, andÂ
I’ll go again.”Â
I thought he would call me boring.Â
Instead, he said, “Okay.”Â
I stood there stunned for at least five seconds.Â
“Do you actually know what boyfriend means?”Â
He didn’t answer.Â
He only pulled me into the passenger seat, fastened my seat belt, asked for my address, and drove me home.Â
But even after we got together, he didn’t reallyÂ
change.Â
I thought that was just the kind of person he was.Â
Until Chloe came back from out of town.Â
That was when I learned he did make exceptions.Â
I just wasn’t one of them.
