My Heart No Longer Beats for You Chapter 06
Daisy thought she had won.
She placed a wedding ring in my hand and made a solemn promise, “I’ll take good care of you the rest of your life, Eric.”
Her cellphone rang at that moment.
Daisy took a look at it, and her expression changed slightly.
I know the call was from Corey. I said to her, “Go ahead and pick up the call.”
Daisy took the call. Corey sounded full of despair from the other end. “Daisy, the doctor said you’re pregnant It is his, right?
She said ‘yes’ softly and turned to look sweetly at me.
My heart ached at the thought of the child.
She had been waiting for the child to be born back then. She loved it too.
Yet, she aborted the child after Corey died.
I went on my knees to beg her to keep the child, but she stubbornly refused.
“Corey wouldn’t like it if I gave birth to another man’s child. This baby has to die.”
I clenched my fists. I wanted to know what her choice would be in this life.
Corey was still saying loudly from the other end, “Daisy, let’s abort the child. You promised that your first child would belong to the Sagers and the Trumans. You can’t go back on your promise.”
This alarmed me. Daisy frantically hung up.
She did not dare to meet the burning look in my eyes. She stammered, “Don’t listen to him. I’m keeping the baby.”
Daisy took my hand and placed it on her belly. “Can you feel it? That’s our baby.”
Her eyes were filled with joy. I wished fervently that she was being truthful about this.
I pretended to be happy as I gently rubbed her belly. “I’m about to be a dad! I am about to be a dad!”
Daisy was relieved to see me so happy.
She thought I would forgive her on account of the baby.
Daisy smiled and said, “Yes, you’re about to be a dad. This baby will be the happiest child in the world.”
That was when her cellphone rang again. She wanted to ignore it, but when she saw the call was from Corey’s mother, she picked it up.
Corey’s mother was heard crying on the other end. “Daisy, please hurry back here. Corey just snatched a needle from the nurse. He says he wants to hurt himself with it!”
Daisy got nervous and said, “I’m on my way!”
She hung up and gave me a troubled look. In the end, she said nothing and left quickly.
After Daisy was gone, Sam said with exasperation, “If he really wanted to die, he would have died long ago.”
I smiled. Even a teenage boy could see through his act. Daisy was the heiress to Truman Corporation. How could she not see it?
It was because she cared for him and did not want anything to happen to him.
Sienna brought the doctor to my ward. He gave me a checkup and said there was nothing serious with me. I just got too agitated.
After the doctor left, Sienna wet a towel with warm water and helped me wipe away the dried blood from my lips gently.
Sam poured me a glass of water and stood quietly at the side.
I said, “Sienna, can your driver help take Sam to school?”
Sienna called her driver immediately.
Sam wanted to say something, but I gave him a look.
He passed the glass of water to me and told me to take care of myself before leaving. He kept turning back to look at me while walking away.
After Sam left, Sienna finally asked the question, “Why did you agree to Daisy Truman’s suggestion?
“You… You are a proud man who shines in whatever you do. Do you really want to be trapped in a cage by her?”
I was about to explain, but Sienna continued, “I know you don’t want to go against her. You are worried she will hurt you and
Sam.
“But you have me, Eric. If you are willing, I… I…”
Her burning eyes looked straight into mine. She was sincere about it. “I can help you handle the Trumans.”
Sienna’s cheeks flushed after saying that.
I laughed with self-deprecation. “Is there any difference between the Trumans and the Chapmans?”
Sienna got upset with my words, and her eyes reddened.
She said unhappily, “I’m not Daisy Truman. I do not need you to do anything for me, nor do I have a childhood crush I grew up
with.
“I like you. It started with your good looks but extended to your talents and your character. That’s all.”
Her words astonished me. I was just teasing her, but I ended up making her cry.
I quickly said, “That’s not what I mean. I just don’t want you embroiled in this fight.”
Sienna replied anxiously, “I’m not afraid, Eric. Can you… Can you give me a chance and let me help you?”
