After I Learned I Was Going to Be His Ex-Wife Chapter 09

But suddenly Ethan was always busy.

So busy you’d think the world would stop turning without him.

So busy it seemed like his company was about to go bankrupt.

He was too busy to even spare me a word.

The word divorce sat in my throat. I couldn’t find an opening to say it.

I watched his back disappear again as he rushed off.

The comments laughed at me.

[The ex-wife still doesn’t get it. He just doesn’t want to talk to her.]

[He’s out early and back late just to be with the female lead. So sweet!]

[The ex-wife looks like such a fool. I’m embarrassed for her.]

[Can’t she take a hint and just ask for a divorce already? He’s obviously struggling to bring it up

himself.]

I was so sick of those comments.

In a fit of anger, I barged into his office. “Ethan. I need to talk to you.”

His face went blank for a second.

He cleared his throat and quickly looked at his computer screen.

“I know. Your closet’s empty. I’ve already arranged for new bags and clothes, top designers. They’ll

arrive tomorrow.”

I froze. How did he know?

No, that wasn’t the point.

“That’s not what I wanted to talk about.”

His voice stayed calm. “Then jewelry? The blue diamond set I bought you will be included.”

I was getting frustrated. “When are you free? We need to talk about divorce.”

Ethan’s expression was nothing like I expected.

Wasn’t he supposed to agree right away?

His usual composure started to crack.

He went pale. His body went stiff. He seemed too drained to even respond.

The study was silent.

After a long moment, he closed his eyes and asked quietly. “Why?”

I froze.

I couldn’t exactly tell him I saw floating comments that said he’d kick me out for another woman.

He’d have me committed.

But even if it was all in my head. Some things really did happen.

The smell of perfume was real. The way he’d been avoiding me these past few days was real.

I looked down at my feet and mumbled. “No reason. You said I could leave anytime, remember?”

^fter a long silence, Ethan said we’d talk after he finished his work.
