He Was Her Ex-Brother-In-Law Chapter 08
I turned and headed back down. My legsÂ
nearly gave out.Â
Asher was waiting below. He caught me in hisÂ
arms.Â
“It’s over.”Â
I collapsed against him, tremblingÂ
uncontrollably.Â
lips.Â
Celeste walked over. A smile played on herÂ
“Sienna. You’re ice–cold. You pushed yourÂ
own sister to kill herself.”Â
I lifted my head and looked at her.Â
“YouÂ
put her up to this. Didn’t you?”Â
Her expression faltered.Â
“What are youÂ
talking about?”Â
dead.Â
“You know exactly what I’m talking about.”Â
Asher fixed Celeste with a look. His eyes wereÂ
“Celeste Sterling. As of today, allÂ
contracts between Blackwood Industries and theÂ
Sterling Group are terminated. All of them.”Â
Her face went white.Â
“Asher. You’re reallyÂ
going to turn on me for her?”Â
“I was never on your side in the first place.”Â
She bit her lip. Tears slipped down.Â
“You’ll regret this.”Â
She turned and walked away.Â
I watched her retreat. Something cold stirredÂ
in my gut.Â
A few days of quiet, and then the call came. My grandmother was in the hospital.Â
Celeste Sterling had found her. Told her I was some kind of demon. A woman who destroyedÂ
men.Â
My grandmother didn’t believe a word of it. But Celeste showed her the photos. TheÂ
livestreams.Â
My grandmother’s heart gave out. She was inÂ
the ICU.Â
My mother called, screaming.Â
“Look whatÂ
you’ve done! Your grandmother is in the hospital because of you! If you had a shred of decency left, you’d walk away from Asher right now!”Â
I hung up, shaking.Â
At the ICU. my mother and Veronica blockedÂ
the door. They wouldn’t let me through. “You’re notÂ
going in there! You don’t get to see her!”Â
I shoved past them.Â
“Get out of myÂ
way.”Â
My mother slapped me across the face.Â
Asher surged forward. I stopped him.Â
I looked at my mother.Â
“That one’s free. Now move. I’m seeingÂ
Grandma.”Â
“You’ll have to kill me first.”Â
inside.Â
My grandmother’s voice drifted fromÂ
“Let her in.”Â
I pushed through and walked inside.Â
She lay in the hospital bed.Â
“Sienna. Come here.”Â
I walked over and dropped to my kneesÂ
beside her.Â
“Grandma. I’m so sorry.”Â
She reached out and stroked my head.Â
“Silly girl. What do you have to be sorry for?”Â
“Celeste Sterling told you I’m some kind of monster. But I’m not, Grandma. I swear I’m not.”Â
My grandmother smiled.Â
“So some woman calls you a name, and I’m supposed to believe her? I’m eighty years old. I know people. You’re a good kid.”Â
“Then what made you so upset you ended upÂ
here?”Â
She sighed.Â
“Not you,Â
sweetheart. Your mother. Your sister. Those twoÂ
would trade their own blood for a dollar sign.”Â
Outside, my mother and Veronica stoodÂ
frozen, their faces ugly.Â
Celeste had shown up at some point too.Â
Malice flickered in her eyes.Â
My grandmother spotted her and gesturedÂ
her over.Â
Celeste approached, molding her face intoÂ
“Hello, Mrs. Sinclair.”Â
something sweet.Â
My grandmother stared at her.Â
“YoungÂ
lady. I hear you’ve been telling everyone my SiennalÂ
is some kind of demon.”Â
Celeste’s face shifted.Â
“Let me tell you something. Even if my SiennalÂ
was a demon, she’d still be my granddaughter.Â
Who the hell are you?”Â
Celeste turned green.Â
When we left the hospital, Celeste was stillÂ
there.Â
“Don’t get too comfortable, Sienna. I haveÂ
more than one way to ruin you.”Â
Asher stepped in front of me.Â
“Celeste. IfÂ
you touch her again, I will dismantle the SterlingÂ
Group piece by piece.”Â
She smiled, savage.Â
“You think I’mÂ
scared, Asher? I’ve got nothing left to lose. I justÂ
want her dead.”Â
She walked away.Â
The next day, a package arrived for me.Â
I opened it. A dead raven. A note tied aroundÂ
its neck.Â
“You’re next.”
